The server host that MonteCarloSS.com has been using since it's start back in 1999 is getting out of the business. As such we need to find a new home. In order to keep the performance up, we're not looking for a fly-by-night operation. I want a fast server with plenty of space and bandwidth at our disposal. Here are the requirements I came up with in a pinch: - FAST
- Greater than 50GB Bandwidth per month (we average about 45GB per month)
- 1 GB or more storage space
- Shell account and FTP access
- Unlimited email accounts
- User assigned web emails a plus
- CGI/Pearl Script friendly with the latest version processes (MySQL etc)
If you know of a well established web server host company that can meet or exceed the requirements above, please contact me via PM. Please, if you operate a server on your own, don't bother to contact me unless you do so as a well established business. Because of the trama involved in doing a server switch, I'd rather not have to do this again for many more years to come. Switching to a well established host will ensure we're able to stay put for awhile. Thanks PaulC

Thanks for all the suggestions that have come in. I'm close to making the final selection (Sunday I hope). The front runner at the moment is IX Webhosting (http://www.ixwebhosting.com/). Has anyone heard anything about them (good / bad?). They have some very reasonable plans, have excellent customer service and are highly rated.
As for timing, we're not in dire straights yet from a server standpoint. Our current host hasn't set a date for shut down. It won't be for a few months. But, I'd rather make the switch sooner rather than later. This would also speed up our ability to test the next generation message board software.
stay tuned.

just a suggestion, but perhaps a letter to the webmaster of sites like ls1tech.com, turbobuick.com, or thirdgen.org to see what they use and their opinions of their current service. They are all pretty big sites with lots of active members. We don't compete with them for members or anything like that so I'm sure they would be willing to give you an honest opinion. I was just thinking, all the sites I mentioned have advertising on them, leading me to think their hosts are a bit on the expensive side I honestly don't have the foggiest idea what it costs to run a site like this. I'm sure it's a lot more then what I think it would be. On the cost note, why don't we have a link or sticky for making donations. I havn't seen anything in a long time on the donation subject, and I'm feeling quite guilty to be honest

The new server host has been selected. IX Webhosting. Now we start the slow process of switching over. Slow because of my limited time, and not wanting to inhibit peak-traffic times here on the board. Thanks go out to everyone for providing input and alternative host suggestions.

So is it going to be newer looking?
Any websites using the same version of UBB to give an idea of what it would look like?

It's still in Beta testing it's so new. So no, there are no or very very few production sites running the new software yet. I just set up a test board to check things out. Not sure when we will transfer this board over. Rest assured, we won't until it's been throughly tested.

I haven't pushed the Site Maintenance Fund contributions in quite a while because it's in a fairly healthy state at the moment, all thanks to those who have contributed in the past, and those who continue to do so.
