As of January 1, 2014, a change will be implemented on the For Sale & Want Ad Forums. After that time, in order to create a new thread in the For Sale forums, a member must have a post count of at least 10 posts. Similarly, in order to reply to a Want Ad, a member must have a post count of at least 10 posts.

This change is being implemented after a few incidents of new members scamming other members of the community. While this isn't a perfect solution, it will help discourage the technique of creating an account for the soul purpose of creating a scam post.

Most active members already have the required posts and will not see a change. However, if you already have a post count greater than 10, but have not posted in the last few months, the system may not have put you in the grouping with permissions to creat new threads in For Sale, and replys in Want Ads. If you have more than 10 posts, and run into this limitation, just make a quick post in any of the other Forums on the board and the system should immediately promote you into the permission group that allows new For Sale threads and Want Ad replies.

The Admins have the ability to promote someone without the necessary post count immediately into this permission grouping if there are mitigating circumstances. An example that comes to mind that we've seen in the past would be someone wanting to sell a deceased family member's SS. A simple email to the board administration explaining the circumstances will suffice to get promoted. All this will be explained in the forum header text.

Again, for the vast majority of active members, you will not see a change. New or inactive members with low post counts will be affected.

Excellent idea, Paul. I've often wondered about the ads posted by members with very low post counts. I think this idea will go a long way towards alleviating any worries that the members might have about possible scams.
