First time at the track. Wasn't fast but had a blast. Car ran consistent 9.05-9.07. Not great times I know but on 255/60/15 bfg ta's i was happy. I could only leave at 1/4 throttle or less full throttle at 120 ft still trying to spin. I think some slicks should get me 8.80's minimum.

I'm not familiar with 1/8 mile times and how they relate to 1/4 mile, but looking at the one slip I have from last year shows my 1/8 ET as 8.7845 and my 1/4 time was 13.6950 @ 100.26 mph. I made that run on the same size tires you have and an open rear, but got lucky and had very minimal tire spin. The track was actually prepped well that run, the next time up wasn't the case frown

What are some of the specs on your car?

I am still waiting to get this year's times after getting rid of the stock exhaust manifolds/system and adding shorty headers/true duals/powertrax locker.

Car has a carbed 5.3 ,comp cam ,vic jr intake,Quick fuel carb ,LT headers , MSD 6010 box. 2004R tranny , 3.73 lsd.
I couldn't get off the line at all. Wheel spin was really bad. 2.4 60ft times.

Yeah, my 1st run with minimal spin was a 2.0150 60ft. The second run with lots of spinning netted a 2.5005 60ft and a terrible 15.5849 1/4 ET frown

I'd love to have a set of 26-10-15 slicks, but the price isn't in the budget ATM. I'm hoping I get lucky for at least 1 run with minimal spin to get a semi-accurate new best ET.

Dragstrips are too addicting! I've been around them for as long as I can remember and just started racing about 6 years ago when I got my license.

I have a friend that put a completely stock 5.3 still EFI in a 1st gen S-10 with a TH350 i believe and he runs 8.6's-8.8's. I am not sure of the weight but it is a single cab fully dressed interior and still has heater box and AC so I would guess you would run better than you expect! Is your transmission factory and what converter are you running?

I'm guessing you could get pretty close to breaking into the 7's. Friend has a gutted camaro with a stock LS1 Vic JR intake 750 QF carb LT headers with stock 3.42 gears and he ran a 7.35. He has a 4000 stall and from what I've seen those LS motors love a huge stall

If you're interested in racing more you should look into the LSx events

There is one in indy and one in Norwalk this year. I have a couple buddies that go to these and they always have a blast!

I did a mild build on the transmission using CK's manual ,shift kit ,billet servo and a few other pieces. However I didn't install any of the billet internals , so a set of slicks may push it too far. The converter is a stock D5. It needs something in the 3500-4000 range to help out the cam and intake , but the old car fund is a little low at the moment lol.

The car is a little heavy ,88 ss , T Tops ,full options ,full interior ,lots of sound deadening , spare tire and everything.

I may borrow a set of slicks and try it again to see what it will actually do. The car felt like it had a lot left in it, just wouldn't hook.

.. How old are your rear tires? They may be old and hard, so little traction available from them anymore...

.. Is the torque converter stall giving you only a choice between bogging or spinning? Hard to get in between?

.. Watch how member John Bzdel's Monte comes off the line with DOT legal drag radials:

Tires are only a couple months old.

Your exactly right about the bog or spin. Seems like there's no middle ground.

The cam is a comp 275xr 222 224 dur .566 .568 lift. That combined with the single plane intake doesn't work well with the stock converter.
It pulls hard from 3000rpm to the limiter. I have it set at 6900 now but it wants to pull past that. Seems like these motors really like RPM.

drag racing is totally addictive. Take your 1/8 mile et and MPH and go to Wallace racing . com and put them into the 1/8 to 1/4 mile calculater. It works. I entered my 1/8 times and it was on the money for my 1/4 mile times. Its a Pontiac site but the math is amazing on the site. Good luck, keep racing.
