i have a set of 2.5 cut outs on my 84. i have the manual ones as i did not think the electrical ones would last if exposed to too much water and all that.

I was thinking about getting some. From what I hear, electrics aren't that bad.

I had a cut-out welded into a flanged test-pipe which I replaced the converter with. I put a quick-time electic cut out on it and ran the switch below the dash. Being able to open and close it with the push of a button beats the crap out of having to crawl on your back and do it. Most of the parts on the electric cut-out are stainless and last a while. Keeping it greased up helps as well. Mine lasted about 5 years before I sold it and it is still working for the guy I sold it to 3 years ago. I'm doing the same thing on my next SS.

Do electric/manual cut outs leak? I was always under the understanding they always leak, and the removable plates where the way to go

^^^^^^ I was wondering the same thing. It's hard enough sometimes to get two properly sized pipes together without a leak. Seems like a simple flapper would surely leak(?)

Mine leaked a tiny bit. Not enough to hear inside the car, but if you were right beside it underneath the car, you could hear a slight leak. There is just no way a flapper could ever completly close the exhaust off the way a bolt on plate would. Keeping the high temp grease around the edges and on the butterfly valve really helped though. If you want zero leaking then get a bolt on. I wouldn't have traded mine in a million years for a bolt on though. I guess it is up to you. Here are a couple pics of mine.

I have a set of QTP 2.5in on my 442. They are about 5-6 yrs old and I haven't done a thing to them and they still work great. Here's some pics of my set up that dumps out the side in front of the rear wheel . I have since changed them to straight out the header with the 45 going to the X before the cutout. I also have a pair of turn-outs on the cutouts. With cutouts after the X it sounded like it had open manifolds and not headers. I had made the spiral baffles as the short cherry bombs were still very loud. I have since hung a pair of modified C5 Corvette mufflers under it with dual pipes on each side. Sorry, no pics of the newer setup installed.

Live your life like an exclamation, not an explanation. Remember, it only has to be perfect.

There are also the flowtech warlock mufflers that have a removeable cap that lets the exhaust blow right through them.

Fuse panel under left side of dash has an available switched connection. I believe it is labeled IGN, or something like that. I used it for my elec. fans.
