I take no credit for being the first to do this. I Googled the subject header and found the information.

Go to Radio Shack and buy this:
http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062397

Then crimp on two 22ga. spade terminals (you know the red ones)
http://www.truckerzparadise.com/catalog/electrical/img/maleqdnylon.jpg

On the fuse block find an empty ignition and light receptacle and install (from the buzzer) the red wire into the lights and the black wire into the ignition.

And there you have it. When you shut the car off and still have the head lights on the buzzer will sound.

My car has that feature as OE. I thought they all did? Maybe your buzzer stopped working?

Still curious though as we have a older Cutlass that doesn't have it, & it would be cool to add.
Can you clarify your wiring instructions?

Hey, that's a pretty slick tip. Thanks for posting it.

I'll take a picture tomorrow of my "custom" installation to clarify where to two wires can be inserted into the fuse block.

To my knowledge my car never had this feature. I've owned the car for at least 10 years now. It's a cheap SC model.

I thought the headlights-on buzzer feature was standard on all SS's too. If you turn the backlighting dimmer all the way down the buzzer will mute.

Is there any way to wire the stock buzzer to do the same?

OK I'm a day late and a dollar short but here (kind of) is my installation:

Here is the buzzer and if you can see it, the black wire plugs into a blank/spare Ign. socket.

This one is a little fuzzy but the red wire plugs into a spare light socket. If you look at the first photo you can almost see where the red wire goes.
Any questions about this and I'll try for a better picture.

I guess my early post/pictures didn't happen. So here they are again:

You can see the buzzer and the black lead going to an ignition plug.

This one is a little fuzzy but the red wire goes a empty socket for the lights.

I have a "cheap" SC as well. The headlight warning buzzer was a standard feature.

If it's still in mine it's broke. I did look at a wiring diagram and did see a circuit for the headlight and key buzzer.

The headlight warning buzzer was not standard equipment. It was included as part of the TR9 Auxiliary Lighting option. Check your SPID stickers on the inside of your trunk for the option RPO codes. Look for TR9. That will tell you whether or not you should have the headlight warning or not.

That warning, BTW, can be turned off by turning the dash lamp brightness control fully counter clockwise (dash lamps off). For the occasion where you are parked with only parking lights on.

The code for the headlight warning buzzer in the GM Productions Options book used in the GM Service Parts Operation is specified as "T63 1976-1999 WARNING SYSTEM, HEADLAMPS ON BUZZER".

Didn't have it on my base '85 either. I did a similar mod to power the aftermarket CD player's "on" signal with the dash light circuit, then added a diode to avoid backtracking the power from the aux circuit to run the parking lights any time the radio was on. (Took me a little while to figure out how that was happening...) Now my radio stays on if I leave my headlights on, and as a bonus, if I just want to turn on the radio for a second, I just kick on the parking lights and don't have to fumble for keys.

Look in the upper right, apparently, the warning buzzer became standard at some point, maybe in the 87/88's?

Going down that list of "Standard Features", I think I have 2 of them, maybe 3... I'd guess that SS's and Aero's had a different level of included features than the lowly base models as well as year to year variations.

Phil_Super_Sport, if you didn't get an answer to your question you asked on Dec. 21st in this topic, yes that black box where the signal and hazzard flashers are located is the warning buzzer and they can go bad. I replaced mine some years back.

Before cutting and adding wires, etc. check the block where the flashers are. If it wasn't replaced you should be able to simply add a warning buzzer. The wiring/block should be standard, the only difference is the warning buzzer wasn't installed during production.

Bad86SS,
Does your Warning Buzzer work appropriately for all of the other features it is designed for? Let's start to find your problem by first performing the following, which is how the Warning Buzzer System should function.
1) Key Warning: With the Ignition Switch in ACCY, LOCK or OFF and the key still in the ignition, open the L/H front door.
- The Warning Buzzer Alarm should sound.
Now, remove the key from the Ignition Switch.
- The Warning Buzzer Alarm should stop.

2) Lights On Warning: With the key removed from the ignition, turn the headlights switch ON.(Not interior lights)
- The Warning Buzzer Alarm should sound.
Now, turn the headlights switch OFF.
- The Warning Buzzer Alarm should stop.

3) Seatbelt Warning Buzzer: PROVIDED WIRE IS CONNECTED AT BASE OF DRIVERS R/S SEATBELT.
Sit in the driver's seat with the L/H door closed.
Turn the ignition switch to RUN and DO NOT buckle the driver's seatbelt.
- The Warning Buzzer Alarm should sound.
- The FASTEN BELTS Indicator Light in the Instrument Panel should light.
- The Warning Buzzer Alarm should should stop and the Indicator Light should go out after 4 to 8 seconds.

Let me know the results of these tests, and then we will try to fine tune the issue to corect your problem.

Jeff E.
