This is my '88 Monte Carlo SS I picked up in '99. This was my first car. Bought it bone-stock with the L69 305 H.O., then I traded-up to a 406 SBC w/ some Brodix heads, cam, Holley Stealth Ram fuel injection, stage 2 200R4 trans, etc. Never could get it running well and it sat on and off for years. This eventually led me to the current swap; Picked up an LY6 w/ 25k miles out of a 2007 Silverado HD.

Motor: 2007 LY6 w/ factory harness
Trans: 2008 6L90e
Oil pan: P/N: 19212593 "muscle car conversion kit"
Mounts: Trans Dapt 4595, Moroso Solid Steel Motor Mounts 62630 (had to be modified to fit)
Headers: Hooker 98-2002 F-body competition headers (Pending fitment trials.)
Cross-member: Factory, modified

1999 when I first bought it.

New paint, wheels, and 406 SBC

On it's way to a new storage spot where it will undergo transplant

Scored a low mileage LY6 from a salvage yard sourced by RetroLSX and had it shipped out. Ended up picking it up from a shipping depot on South Side Chicago. In hindsight I would have paid extra for delivery to my door. Anyway, I got it home I cleaned it up a bit...

Saw your post on the ls1tech.com forum. Car looks good and nice grab on the motor. I am doing the same with my '86SS. Still gathering parts for my swap. I have a ls1/4l60e out of a 2002 t/a. I guess I need to get busy and post a build thread as well. Keep posting!

I've been committed to this swap since I bought the car back in '05. Just too many other things that have to be taken care of first. Right now money for the car comes in last place of priorities. So it is slow go on parts collecting.

Very nice SS! It's time for the modern upgrade is here.
Those LS swaps are the way to go, power, tons of aftermarket support, and accurate tuning.

Glad I'm not the only one. Think I'm gonna go for a T56 so I'm saving for that right now.

Good luck with your build! Things are much easier now with parts availability than when I did my swap back in 2004.

LY6 is a VVT 6.0 engine. I have one also! Any new news on this yet?

No updates as of now. Probably nothing until the Spring. I'd be tinkering more but, it's stored at a friends garage. Holding out for a good deal on a T56. Although, still open to automatic. How do you like the 4L85E 345HP87SSAC?

So far I like the 4l85E. I want a different converter. The truck one is tight and heavy. I bet I could free up some ponies if I change that.

On cam choice.... There are some newer grinds that are more aggresive than mine but mine did well. It made 365HP at the wheels with the heavy truck converter and LS1 Camaro manifolds. I am sure that number would hover close to the magic 400 mark with those two things changed. On a side not I have averaged a touch over 26 mpg with this cam and the 4l85 tranny. That is highway mileage.

Thanks for the tidbits. I change my mind every other month on which parts I want to go with so we'll see what Spring will bring in grin So glad to see you got her going again after that mess I saw you go through.

Welcome! Gonna kick it back in gear about the end of this month since the weather is getting nicer. Trying make a final decision on the trans. Most likely going 4L80e/4L85e so I'm looking for a deal now. Trying to keep things simple so I can at least get the thing moving (been sitting for several years now.) Also trying to recruit friends for help with the project. Good luck with yours and if you are up to it definitely give the community a build thread!

Slow progress but, progress nonetheless. Built the engine stand I just ordered and got the LY6 up off the floor to prepare for the oil pan. Thinking about ordering a pickup tube girdle? (keeping the VVT) Still trying to decide on cam?

Call the guys ar MC Racing in KS. They are awesome at LSX engines. If I met them sooner I would have used a bigger VVT cam. They say they make 450 at the tire with VVT with the correct other parts in the build

How's yours now that it's running? Which cam did they recommend to you?

I don't have the specs on the cam they talked about. Mine made 365 at the tires without headers. It would have gone up.

So I figure there are 40-50HP left on the table with a better cam.

Minor setback or step in the right direction? Ordered up my 4L80e from a junkyard based on an '08 2500HD forgetting that 6l90e's (edit 6/12/12 from 6L80e. Found out it was a 6L90e.) were also an option in the 2500HD's. Should have double checked with them. Oh well, better MPG's I suppose. It's a beast. If I keep it I'll probably have to do some cutting. this is what showed up......
