What readily available SBC heads would work the best with the Lunati 60101 camshaft.

The heads would be going on 350-smog motor with about 30k on a stock rebuild.

The current head casting # is 3988386 but I couldn't find much info on these heads unless the head casting numbers were copied wrong.

My total budget is about $400.

Iron Vortecs. I don't know if you can get a set of decent heads for $400 anyway.

yep i put sum 113s off a older vette on my cousind 84SS with a 355 that had stock heads and cam. put them heads and a summit cam sum-k1107 234/244 488/510 and a weiand intake and holly 750 and it woke that motor up like you wouldnt believe! for how cheap you can find them heads they work great!

Good cam you have there. Think you reading head casting wrong. Me think the number should be 3986336X which are 1971 350 heads with 76 cc chambers. In any case you can't go wrong if you can get a set of used Vortec should wake that engine up.

Yes, the casting number was probably read wrong.

I'm getting the complete stock 74' 350 long block from one of the members here.

It looks like the L98/ZZ3/ZZ4 aluminum heads may be hard to find with my budget of 4 to 5 hundred dollars.

What about the 906 VORTEC HEADS?

The 350 motor has a stock rebuild that was done quite a few years ago, but the seller states it only has about 30k miles on it since the rebuild.

What kind of HP would these 906 heads and the Lunati 60101 make off-hand?

.. Actually, a Summit #1103 cam will do all those -113 aluminum heads can handle... which is about 370 - 390 HP... take some serious porting, polishing, bigger valves, and just plain hogging out to get more out of them...

.. I couldn't find any info about those stock -386 heads, but it appears they may be of a truck/smog small 1.72/1.44 valve series... so -113's would be a definite improvement...

.. Both the Vortecs and -113 heads can be found used for about $100 - $300... the Vortecs will require a Vortech-compatible intake manifold...

i got a used set of them l98 aluminum vette heads off craigslist for 100$ then sold them to my cousin for his motor. there pretty cheap. there aluminum and already have screw in studs and guide plates.

Well I'm sure I can wait and keep my eye on craigslist and see what comes along for a couple of hundred dollars.

There's a post on the Hotrodders forum where someone claims that the On a 350, the Vortecs add 40 hp over the Corvette L98 head and as much as 60 over earlier heads by just bolting them on - no cam, carb, or piston change.
