My temp gauge has worked since I swapped in my 350 but only when it overheated because of low coolant. It doesn't work now that the coolant is at proper levels now.

Oil gauge doesn't work either. The plug that goes onto the oil sensor which is on the back of my older 350 block by distributor looks like a 3prong plug. This plug is off of my wire harness loom from the drivers side. There is also this same looking plug that is coming off of the harness for all the emissions junk.

Any other ways to get these gauges working or how to re-wire them?

all gauges worked when the 305 was in there

This is the connector that runs to your oil pressure gauge in your dash.

It used to be plugged into the sensor just above your oil filter. Sorry I don't have a picture of the sensor.

This is the connector that runs to the water temp gauge in your dash

It should be plugged into the sensor on the passenger side head

There is also an oil pressure sensor on the choke circuit that won't let the choke work until there is oil pressure.

This is the connector

It plugs into the sensor screwed into the back of the block by the distributor.

This does not affect the oil pressure gauge though some people move their oil pressure sensor from the area by the oil filter up to this port do to adding headers and space restraints.

shaking my head... laugh

Now I just need to get them all in one place and maybe get it stickied so I don't have to run and fetch every time there is a question...

Lance,

I have that plug (choke) plugged to my oil sensor in the back of the block above the oil filter, to the drivers side of the distributor. Is this the reason why my oil pressure gauge isnt working?

I have that green line attached to my temp sensor in the drivers side head. There is coolant passing it as when I loosen it, coolant starts to leak out.

You need this connector

plugged into the brass looking sensor that used to be down by your oil filter in order for your gauge to read oil pressure.

If the green temp gauge wire is plugged into the sensor in the head and the gauge isn't working, I guess either the sensor has failed or the wire is broken somewhere.

If the temp sensor only showed when too high temp I would replace it since its not working with coolant and lower temperatures. I've heard that an air bubble can make then not work also, but mainly with supermarket ones and the adapters used on them. Make sure to check your wires for cracked insulation and grounding out on something metal. That will make them not work.

Lance,

The sensor on my 305 that was on the back of block to the drivers side of the distributor is the oil pressure sensor correct? I assumed this was the oil sensor and I just put it back in the same location on my 350. The sensor however is a 2-prong sensor and I still have that plugyou have pictured above, but it is only a 1-prong plug. Do I need to get a new oil pressure sensor (1-prong) to match the 1-prong plug pictured above?

I will just get a new temp sensor as I can't imagine they would be anymore than $10.

Behind the header in this picture you can see the oil pressure sensor that feeds the gauge on our cars.

It is screwed into a port just above the oil filter. Most of us that put headers on our cars have to put a fitting or two between it and the block to get it to clear the headers.

You need the single prong plug above plugged into a sensor like this in order for your gauge to work.

The sensor you are talking about up by the distributor just opens up the choke circuit once oil pressure is detected. It does not send a signal to the gauge.

You can also see the one I'm talking about here

you need the silver one on the right side of these three in this image, it screws in on the drivers side down above the oil filter. it is a single prong plug like the connector shown above... this is an oil pressure sensor or sending unit

the other one by the distributor is an oil pressure switch.

Where was the sender on the 305 you took out?

thats oil pressure sensor, the one by the oil filter is the oil pressure sending unit, one is for the oil light n the other one for the gauge

I'm looking for the gauge to work. I have a HV pump so I'm going to go ahead and say my pressure is fine, but I just want the gauge to work.
