I am looking for ideas to paint my SS. Since my SS is far from stock, I want to do something custom. Post pictures of your custom painted SS. Please include what colors were used, brand of paint (if known) and approximate cost.

Here's one for you. Painted "Wicked Ruby Red, GM color 79/WA517Q. Also called Merlot Jewel Metallic. Has Red Mica and Copper Pearl in the mix- really pops in the sunlight.

That green is GORGEOUS. The factory stripes look incredible in combo with it. The stripe kit is the factory scheme for a black car, right? (light on top and dark on bottom)

Paint is Ditzler/PPG Harlequin magenta to gold color-shifting paint. Paint and materials cost $4,413 back in year 2000.


87 SS, Harwood cowl induction hood, UMI trailing arms. Edelbrock TES Headers (Jet Hot Coated). GM Goodwrench 350, TPI & Trick Flow 56cc alum heads, SLP runners, ported plenum, Comp Cams 260AH-12 cam, Trick Flow 1.5 roller rockers, Bilsteins, TCI 2400 stall converter, Ramcharger fans, SLP ZR1 rims.

If you click the link in my signature, I have two different color combos. I have the current setup, which is "electric green" a ford color, and any run of hte mill black. The pinstriping was all done in silver. The clear had a metalic flake added to it for a little more pop. Total cost was appx 2500, and all of the paint was "Omni" paint products.

The second, original style, paint was just a simple burgandy and silver paint setup. The upside to this is that the paints I bought had more metallic in them already, so we didn't have to add it to the clear. The price on this one was about 2500 as well, and it lasted 6 years without too many problems.

The easiest way to keep costs down is to find a factory color that you really like, and use it, instead of a house of colors candy paint. With doing this, it is also easier to match if anything ever happens (such as rock chips).

Currently I have a stock Black and Saddle 87 SS that I am thinking about having repainted in Dark Metallic Blue with new stock gold stickers. I saw a brand new Camaro RS in this blue and I fell in love with it. Its a little deeper than the Monte SS blue and I think it will look good with the gold and tan.

Anybody think this is nuts????

Steve, I seen that same color just the other day and I love it to. My Monte is painted Gm Indigo Blue, and the next paint job I hope this winter will sport something darker and richer like that 2010 Camaro Blue.
