Did you order your parts yet? I bought some stuff for my 400 at a place in Glen Burnie called DACCO Transmission Parts.They sell parts or complete rebuild kits.If you only need a few things instead of a whole kit,they may be able to help.I recommend a smooth clutch in stead of ones with lines or waffle pattern...they all work,it's just a prefference for racing clutches.
They can ship stuff to you or pick it up in person.They are in a industrial park,on the left hand side nearing the back of the complex,small sign on the door.

UPDATE: Got it rebuilt today. Replaced the parts that were bad and threw it back together. Waiting for tommorow to reinstall and test! After several many quick air checks all the clutch packs are applying though! Rebuild is looking good, but time will tell

Small update: Did get the trans in a few days after my last post. but its still having similar problems i was experiencing before. The trans feels like multiple gears are engaging at once in second. Causing a dragging type feel. I pulled the valve body and airchecked again. I'm getting a crossleak at the center support. Drums are applying, just leaking over into other drums causing the drag. I really think I pinched the center support seals again, as the crappy feathered teflon seals they give you in the rebuild kit just didnt wanna seat properly without rolling out of place. i fought them quite a bit and thought I had it, but guess not. This time, getting the old style cast iron seals which are supposed to be much more resilliant to ballooning or getting squashed. I had to turn my attention to a 4l60e rebuild in a pickup I bought to sell. so thats torn apart on the bench commanding my attention. Then throwing in inspecting Bernie(sickspeeds) POS chevy dually I've been busy. Doing alot of leaf clean ups, and still prepping my ford for winter plowing. Overall in a positive mood about the latest failure. Everytime somthing goes wrong, I learn a little more, and do it better the next time. I feel that this next time will be the charm!

Any new updates? Read through the thread today, nice work. How is the KRB stuff you used holding up? I'm looking to do that to my Malibu when the time is right and it's priced pretty reasonably. I can't really tell in pictures, but how does it look? Does it fill in all the pits in the metal like powdercoating or is it just like paint and thin coats? Show quality or daily driver?

No...Still haven't touched it. Finially finished my current DD/work truck issues. But bought another truck to resell...so that transmission is torn apart on my bench right now...theres a crap load of salt on the roads now anyway....so not to thrilled to be driving it.

As far as the KBS- Seems to be holding up great. Its a glossy finish that seems to take some abuse. You can brush it on and it smooths out/fills in most small holes. I'm very happy with it.

I just have one question about this whole build. Where are you guys finding these cheap LS motors? Everything I find down here is well over $1000.

Big Matt, there is one locally for 600 bucks for a 5.3, a 6.0L with tranny and everything for 1500, its a matter of beign patient and looking around, asking around

easy now! Sarah moved it in the driveway the other day and called me to tell me "Your truck is a beast!!" I guess she's not used to diesel torque. And apparently it fires right up even in 30*F without letting the glow plugs cycle

Is the truck you're flipping that extended cab that was there when I brought the truck by for the last check-out? Looked pretty nice from 15 feet.

I finally took the time to do the plugs in my ford diesel and man...what a difference!! Starts no problem in whatever temp without being plugged in...just like yours from the sound of it...before I could kiss starting goodbye in less than 40* and no block heater. Energy savings should pay for the plugs in no time! lol. My business partner and I subcontract from brickman landscaping for our lots. plus a few large driveways I have from landscaping customers.
this is the truck I'm flipping. Just successfully rebuilt the 4l60e in it and been driving it around..needs some front end work, and ALOT of clean up...but overall very nice truck


On a side note

After getting in touch with the folks I sold my drivetrain to some years ago I found that this is what they've been up to! Did a fantastic looking resto on this thing and put my ole 305 in with a thumper cam...even refinished the same valve covers!! I'm kinda proud lol.

I'm thinking I'll have to call around and see about getting some jobs, or maybe make up a card. I'm going to use it in my neighborhood first with my driveway and maybe the street... and if I get a few takers for other driveways, then great. I want to shake down the plow first before I commit to taking care of a business.

yea good plan. Carry extra hoses, relays, pins and fluid. Always stuff you need.

Do you have a list/part numbers for all the stuff you used on your frame and suspension parts? Also, how much did you use on just the front part of the frame? I'd like to get my body off the frame and replace the 31 year old body mounts and the way that stuff looks is just beautiful!

I bought their whole system on ebay I think..or maybe another site. Rustblast/aquaclean, rust seal, and topcoat. I think for my frame/susp parts I bought a quart of black seal/topcoat. Still have some left over- that stuff covers very well and spreads far!

UPDATE- Got a new set of seals (This time going with steel center support seals to avoid pinching the scarf cut teflon ones) and have several th400 rebuild kits to scavenge from if need be. Plan is for this saturday to go in, remove the tranny, replace any leaking seals, air check and put it all back together. I hope I can get it right this time. It'll be the second time rebuilding this trans MYSELF( shoulda done that in the first place) I'll be sure to post up here after surgery gets out.

well..no easy way to say this but...Failed again. I am sooooo tired of transmission work on this POS. Worse than it was before. Seems to be stuck in 1st gear. I give up on it
