Hello,

I need to get ready to pass emmissions, and I get a code 53 after cruising the interstate. After an afternoon with the scanner and my service manual, I've found I need to replace my EGR solenoid. I've checked online at all the local parts stores (Checker, Advance, Autozone, NAPA) and they all reference one, but no one shows it as available. Either out of stock or unavailable.

Anyone purchase one lately? I've done a search on "EGR Solenoid" here on the forum and it did not bear fruit.

Thanks in advance. Steve

Conquista 305 all original 86K. With new tires it drives nice. Pray that I will pass emissions in 2011

Thanks for that link Buick. Lots of good parts at good prices. But no EGR solenoid. I'll keep looking.

Thanks Dave. That's it.

I'm going to try one for a 86 pick up or Astro van. It looks like the connector is in a slightly different location, but the same soleniod. Looks like this one is still available at all the parts stores. We'll see.

.. Maybe your old EGR port just needs the carbon cleaned out of it...

X2 on the intake or head port being clogged up, 305s have a tendency to leak at the valve seals, EGR passages pay the price and coked.

For a EGR solenoid, Standard Motor Product VS8. EGR valve number for Standard is EGV328, GM number for an 86 305 is 17113433. Many of the old EGRs are being discontinued. More "one size fits all" EGRs that use an orifice washers to adjust the EGR flow rate, here's one.

Remove the EGR from the intake and check for coking of the valve's pintle and intake passage.

Thanks to all that replied. I'm impressed with all the valuable expertise that is shared on this site.

The SMP part number and EGR OEM part number were very helpful. I've been able to find the solenoid online, at a reasonable price.

I've already replaced the EGR valve, and appreciate the advice regarding the exhaust passage cleaning that was required. I think it took a couple days to finally burn all the residual in there after it opened up.

Once you fix all the vacuum leaks and get all the sensors and switches working, the CCC 305 runs really good!
