You may have noticed the new subforums in the Parts For Sale forum. This is an experiment to see if categorizing parts for-sale will make it easier for sellers to list their parts and for buyers to search for those parts. We'll try this for the month of June and then re-evaluate at that time whether or not to keep this scheme. We will solicit your input at that time. Suggestions how we can further tweak this as we go are welcome.

The Parts For-Sale subforum rules are the same as the Parts For-Sale forum, with slight modifications in each case. Please read them at the top of each subforum before you post a for-sale ad. The parts consolidation and 1 active post guidlines apply in each of the subforums. Do not list a part in multiple subforums.

From this point forward, for new for-sale ads please use the higher level Parts For-Sale forum only for items that do not fall into one of the 5 subforum categories:

  • Interior
  • Exterior
  • Engine & Drivetrain
  • Rolling Chassis
  • Parting Out

All new parts for-sale ads should be placed in these subforums as appropriate. If you wish your exisiting ad to be moved to one of these subforums, just ask via PM. Otherwise, you are free to continue your exisiting for-sale ad in this higher level Parts For-Sale forum.

If at the end of this experiment we decide to revert back to the original forum scheme without subforums, all threads contained in those sub-forums will be moved to the higher level forum.

Paul, this is a great idea! If you don't mind, I have a couple of suggestions. Maybe a wheels and tires subforum since I alot of members sell these? Also, what about a subforum for all non- Monte parts? I notice some members sell other items (like me at times) that are non monte related. This may be beneficial on those working on a secondary project. Just some thoughts.

Thanks,
Mike

its a brilliant idea but it may be confusing for many. consider the fact that some ppl may have things for sale for more than one category (such as an engine, bucket seats, brakes, fender/panels & cowl hood all at once). that itself may be a problem that results in having more than one "items for sale" thread from a said individual. we all know this leads to clutter & clutter leads to more confusion. heck you even got that in a paragraph in the forsale forum as a "thumb rule" (list all things for sale in one thread to keep everything simple & compact).

my added two sents is to add an "other" or "two or more category" type section for the ones who sell things of all nature instead of certain items of a specific setion. but again, this may lead to confusion

Not liking it at all.

I scan the 'for sale' every day, looking for that item I didn't know I needed.

It was nice to see all items on one page.

Let me clarify.. with the new subforums.. it's acceptable to have simultaneous active for sale ads in each of the subforums. Just keep it to one per subforum.

I agree. So far I'm not a fan. I like seeing it all in one place. I also think it would be harder on sellers if they have to work multiple threads at once.

I have to agree, I prefer the old way more, easier to keep track off. Also, when members make a new thread in the sub-forum, it doesn't show up on the portal page. I liked when it did that as sometimes I now miss a new post of something I might have been interested in.

Thanks Jonathan for your input. You actually caught an error there. I neglected to have the new forums show up on the portal when I built them. I've corrected that now so they should show up. As a matter of fact, one possible option would be to create a new portal window which would only show topics from the for-sale forums. Something to consider later if they stay.

I'll be starting a pole in early July to solicite input on whether or not the forums stay, should be eliminated or modified.

A poll has just been created to determine if the sub-forums stay, get modified or get ditched. The poll will run for one week and a decision will be made thereafter.
