Hey everyone, I just bought an 1985 Monte Carlo SS and thought I'd share my pictures/project with everyone. I found this after it had been sitting for about a year, it has around 70k miles, and I'm the second owner (found original bill of sale) My first car was a Ford Taurus wagon so this is a welcomed change from that. I've spent months on craigslist and the like trying to find a 5.0 mustang (I wanted one since my grandmother had a 93 GT convertible) but my mind changed when I found this in a junkyard.

Friend of mine checking it out.
So $3500 later, it's now home(maybe I paid too much, I don't know, I think it was a decent price)

I can't register it yet as I still have to sell my taurus, so I'm slowly accumulating parts for it and this summer it'll be looking much better. My plans aren't anything crazy, for now I'm pretty sure I'm keeping the 305 and leaving it stock for the most part. I ordered an amp and some infinity speakers, and I'll be getting it a new radio. It needs minor things like weatherstripping for the T-Tops and new pedals, and it'll be painted soon (family member owns a body shop, i'll have to beg for a deal ahah) Right now, everything is the way it was the day it was made. The seats faded in the sun, the interior smells odd, there's dust, dirt, and goo in several places. the good is the original wheels and tires (can't find the ones on it now, seems like goodyear doesn't sell the ones that they +4 on them?) rims have a little rust that can be fixed, and the engine will be painted and look great.

I forgot to mention, trying to fix the rattles in the car led to the discovery that this car is filled with dead bugs.

I'm gunna try to get as much done to it as soon as possible, I need to sell some things around the house to get money. I'm 19 and work part time so extra moneys hard to come by, but the things everyones done to their cars on this site is inspiring me. Beyond the speakers and radio, I bought some dynamat for the doors because it seems the previous owner took out insulation in them or it just never had any. I have 20 square feet so hopefully I'll be able to hit the trunk too.

Welcome, and good luck with the car, it seems like it is in decent shape and with a little work it should be back in form, the people on this site are very knowledgeable so don't hesitate to ask questions.

The hardest part for you will be looking at what everybody else has done and deciding for yourself which direction you want to go. Some have kept the original 305, some swap for a bit more power where others have gone all otu. Paint is the same way here, from original repaints, mild customs, to wild customs. i'm a bit partial to a two toned appearance laugh

Obviously if they are drinking, then they shouldn't be walking to get beer.

tsk, tsk.
Shame on you Dave for even thinking that.....

Looks like a great start to a cool car. I would keep the other ride for a winter car/ second car if possible.

Enjoy life, family first!

I miss my column shift Monte... My next one will have a column shift.

Great find... Blows my mind that a car like that would be in a JY. Thanks for saving it!

Hey everyone thanks for the welcoming and responses!
It's going to be a slow start with this, but I'm going to try to keep this updated with what's happening. At this point, I'm planning on keeping this completely stock. I won't be swapping out the 305, I want to clean up the rust inside and paint it. The outside of the car will probably end up being the same color, just new paint.
Right now until I can register it, I'm just messing around with the inside. I have been taking off the plastic around the t-tops and around the pillars to fix the rattle. The piece that is in between the T-tops doesn't snap in correctly, and a few pieces have slight breaks in them preventing them from being screwed in. The picture shows the door panel taken off and like I said I gotta dynamat that.
Next thing will be the radio, I have a feeling working on this is going to be a pain aha.

Welcome to the site and nice find you have there.

You can find some aftermarkets radios that can look stock, but have the add'l features. (CD changer, MP3 plug, etc) Right now, I have a Sony in place of the orig as the old radio was shot (Sound knob didn't work properly). Mine is the 1.5 din type so it was easy to do aftermarket. I still have the original and there are people out there that can fix em, but don't have cash or the need to have factor for it...
