Im a little unsure of a sound I hear coming from what sounds to be under the intake somewhere.kind of a slight knocking, its real quiet after the motor gets up to temp(but still evident) oil pressure good,Car runs incredible, valvetrains smooth and quiet. laugh.I broke my cam in By running the motor for 25 minutes at 3000 R.P.M,s.Im just trying to narrow out the issue. The new cam and lifters were put in along with the motor two months ago. This sound started last weekend. shocked.Im using 20w50weight oil and always run high octane.Motors got between 20 to 25,000 on it,350 small block.Any ideas?

New pistons? Was the clearance checked at cylinder wall? Sounds like piston pin or skirt noise.

Definetly sounds to be coming from the upper end of the motor,An edelbrock 2102 cam is probably the most mild cam you can put in a smallblock,New pistons?,no just a G.M. crate with low miles.

Maybe dist. gear noise? Timing components? Just throwing some things out there.

Funny you should mention that,I just replaced the cap and rotor an it was a whole new car, lol.MSD dist, but i guess the cap and rotor was in bad shape.I have been playing with the timing and i got it real sweet at the moment, but that is exactly the kind of sound im talking about(timing off)we are on the same page.

Did you add some zinc to the oil when you broke in the cam. I'm told that today's oil won't protect a new cam during break in.

I did not add zinc.Ya know ive heard adding zinc is a good thing from alot of people,One of my friends adds it to his diesel truck and swears by it.Im just hoping its a lifter that im hearing,I guess only time will tell if it gets worse then ill know for sure.Having a hard time swallowing that it may be a rod knock, motor will be down to long if thats the case. Not sure how to tell the difference between the two.Maybe ill get lucky and it will just stop, lol.

.. Probably a lifter/rocker arm/pushrod wasn't adjusted quite right... or a new lifter is a little tight inside and sticking... it may go away after all the parts get seated in and worn in good... or you may have to eventually pull the valve covers, check them, and re-adjust one or two...
