Hi guys,

As part of my winter plan to tidy up the engine bay, I also want to route my fuel lines as cleanly as possible. I’m running braided -6 AN lines for both the supply and return lines, so I’ve got a good amount of flexibility as to how I can route them.

Currently they’re routed up the passenger frame rail, with the supply line going behind the motor high up on the firewall to the rear of the fuel rail, and the return line running from the rear of the other rail to a regulator mounted on the firewall. I know that I need to move the regulator off the firewall to make it legal for the track, so I’m looking for suggestions as to where to mount that as well.

For reference, here’s a few older pictures (That radiator hose has been replaced with a molded one and I’m also moving the coil off the firewall as well):

I know that there’s at least a few people on here with rear exit fuel rail setups, so any suggestions and/or pictures would be very helpful.

Thanks!

As a side note, for the fuel pressure regulator (Which I’m going to refer to as the FPR from now on to save typing smile ), I’d like to mount it in a spot that minimizes the length of vacuum line needed (Side note to my side note: Does the length really matter at all?); I was originally thinking of making a bracket for it and mounting it on the intake manifold somewhere, but I’m not sure how safe that would be, or if it would even be possible due to space constraints.

I really wish that I could keep it on the firewall, especially since I don’t see how that spot is any more dangerous than any other spot in the engine bay, but I guess there has to be a good reason for it….

Dave, what are the rules? Does it all have to 'move' with the motor or what?

Ron, not really sure what you mean by that. I mean, the hose is by nature flexible, and I was planning on routing it with a little bit of slack to account for engine movement.

I was just wondering if the FPR/coil had to be mounted such as to move with the motor so it doesn't cause any problems if a motor mount would break causing a leak in the fuel system and/or also a nice spark due to a torn electrical wire think

I'm not familiar with any of the rules and why they have them.

Oh, I gotcha now! Well, the fuel lines themselves can flex, as can the coil to distributor wire (As long as they have enough slack), so the coil and FPR don't have to move with the motor.

I am positive that the FPR can't be mounted to the firewall. As far as where it can be mounted. I think anywhere as long as it isn't the firewall. Sorry, don't have the reference but i remember someone awhile ago asking the same thing. His was mounted like yours is and had to move it due to regulations.
