I'm gonna spend some time and actually figure out what the three wires do in the plug that goes to the trans.
EVERY post, link, etc I have ever read doesn't really explain anything about what I would like to know. I have been trying to read every post that I see that has something to do with this and I have yet to get an answer to my question. It would seem a TON of people had to of done exactly what the original poster has asked about hooking up a simple toggle switch (a switch that is "on" or "off") to operate the lock up of the converter.
Does anyone know how to do this? What does 12 volts to the purple wire do? Lock the TC? Unlock it? I thought the computer supplied a ground to the purple wire? Which wire do you either interupt, or supply power or a ground to of those three wires going to the trans. It would be great if someone could explain how they did it without posting a link to an aftermarket kit that doesn't really explain anything unless you buy the kit.
I think my TCC is bad since my car feels like the TC is locked up when it shouldn't be.
Anyone?

I'm not sure but I'm anxiously awaiting what you find out on this topic...

I've got power where it's supposed to be on my connector at the trans...but mine does NOT lock up.

SSLance, I believe that would be a problem with the TCC solenoid(?) or whatever the tech name of it would be. I think Paul has a thread in the DIY section if you haven't read that yet.

The other thread linked has this way to test.

"Just ground pin "F" of the ALDL connector under the dash and it will accomplish the same thing. Pin "A" is ground, you could do it with a paper clip if you wanted to."

When would one try this? when traveling above 45 mph in 3rd or 4th gear?

Answer=
could i check the constant positive with just the key in the on position with out turning on the car?

Yes.

Should be able to hear the solenoid click when testing. Could also be tested at speed with a jumper in Pin F & A of ALDL. Paper clips & aligator clipped test leads. So your not driving with your head under the dash. LOL!!

So if grounding pin F doesn't do anything...and I know I've got 12 volts to the connector at the trans...I'm guessing the next step is to replace the TCC solenoid huh?

Well, let me take that back. Above 45 mph, when the "F" pin is grounded to the "A" pin...the TC DOES lock up... laugh

That's the good news...because I think it means I don't have to drop the trans pan again. The question now is...what do I have to find now to get the ECM to lock up the TC?

More things to check, maybe 1 of these will help you out.

This is the article I used for my lock up mod. Now my convertor locks up whenever my car hits overdrive, and unlocks when I hit the brakes or downshift from od to third. I love the way it works. I don't have to worry about forgetting the toggle switch and stalling the motor when I stop. I did have to order the pressure switch the article mentions at the bottom. I think it was like $13 plus shipping. It only takes about an hour to do this, and is well worth it.
