I bought a new aftermarket GM T56. 606 bell and factory Malibu linkage and pedels. Hooker Supercomp #2150 headers clear linkage. Centerforce dual friction clutch (love it...feels like hydraulic). Hurst Billet plus shifter with Mustang Cobra leather knob. Modified G Force crossmember. 4.11 rear gears (perfect). Shameless plug. And my own shift bezel/boot which I sell. ....Bill

I haven't joined yet but I will one day!! I love stickshifts and now I'm gathering info.
Is there any advantage to having hydraulics vs. manual? Can you alter a T56 with hydraulics to manual linkage?

Bill, If you mean that great looking silver bullet I see, then yes, I just have. Looks great! Bet it's a helluva lot faster than mine with that ZZ in it. What is your rear suspension spec and pinion angle? One of the issues I have found that I need to work out is a significant vibration/hum in sixth gear only. I am pretty sure the driveshaft and pinion angle is right, but have that possibility open to inspection. I am leaning towards just a tranny issue since I have a wrecker box. How's bout you?

I am running a T-56 6-speed out of late model IROC. To make it work with the early motor (1978 400 SBC out of 3/4-ton K20 4X4) I had to use a Centerforce 36 lb flywheel specially made for mating the T-56 to the early motors (it is a shelf item though). I used the clutch pedals out of a 1993 F-body using the hydraulic 'pull-style' setup. I had to shorten the driveshsft 1.5" to use with the sock rear. Everyone that has a Monte and never drove a manual Monte is missing out on all the fun... plus the 50% 6-th gear overdrive drops my RPM's to about 1600 and you can just guess at all the savings in fuel and wear and tear!

I converted mine in 2001, first to GG 4 speed then shortly thereafter to a Tremec TR3550. Factory malibu pedals, but I quicky tossed the OE G body bellhousing for an early camaro/chevelle bellhousing, and moved the pushrod into the upper hole on the Z-bar. When I went true dual, the Z bar had to go, So I installed a 84-88 4+3 corvette bellhousing, 15 lb steel GMPP flywheel(I have a 2 piece rear main 350), and Centerforce clutch. A 94 F-body master was used, and the pedal connector cut off of it(spherical joint), rod bent 90 degrees with a small hole drilled and a washer and clip holding it through the hole in the pedal. The Shifter is a stock mustang handle, and a 3rd Gen camaro/bird shift boot, and leather must Cobra knob...Stock console shifted forward 1 inch. Have a T connector for the oil pressure sending unit form a ~84 Chevy C10 to get it behind the distributor.

what about a manual Non-Monte? I have a non-Monte: 1980 El Camino with a Doug Nash 4+1. I thought I would post my write-up so it might help others: http://personal.atl.bellsouth.net/c/l/clindh/DNE1.htmlAt the bottom I have links to every '78-88 A/G body manual swap on the 'net. Let me know if I missed one.

I'll hopefully be one of the manual monte cult followers before next summer hits. I just picked up a W/C T5 today from a 92 F-body. The only real bad part is one of the mounting ears (lower DS) is partially broken, but the previous owner didn't have any issues with it, so I am crossing my fingers there. The good is that it was supposedly rebuilt recently and has less than 1000km on it (he upgraded to a T56). I am missing most of the bolts (flywheel, pressure plate, trans-bell). I am also missing the shifter bolts - these are the only ones I don't know if I can buy as a package, so I will need to track down the size of them. I'll also be looking for an inspection cover & bolts, as well as a reverse light harness. I need to swap out the VSS for a mechanical unit, so if anyone has one, give me a shout. From my findings, I should be able to use my 3-speed crossmember, and shorten my driveshaft 3". Other than that, I just have to decide on mechanical or hydraulic clutch (I have a bellhousing for both now). The hydraulics that came with it are damaged, so I will likely go with a 93-97 setup if I decide on hydraulic. I'm not too well versed on inspecting clutch wear, so I will have to have the one that came with it checked out before I decide on whether I will get a new one prior to installation. So I might be picking all your brains over the next while

Forgot about this thread I'll hopefully be one of the manual monte cult followers before next summer hits.... Count me in -1992 World Class T5 -converted to mechanical speedo output -factory g-body TH350 crossmember with elongated mount slot -84-92 F-body canted bellhousing -93-97 Hydraulics with custom adjustable pushrod -John Bzdel clutch pedal -Hurst Competition Plus shifter with modified offset to fit factory console I was originally going to go mechanical (even have a 606 bell/fork on hand), but decided to go hydraulic so it would be easier to swap to a T56 down the road if I can find one for the right price. It sure is a blast to drive, can't wait for spring!

Hi, I've been a member of Montecarloss since almost it's birth, member #69, and a member of the manual monte cult since doing my T56 swap in 2002. My initial swap with the L69 was the G-body bell, manual linkage, one piece seal F-body flywheel, Centerforce DF161911 10 3/4" clutch, and a new after-market T56. Finally after a long motor build I installed the 427 sbc in the Spring of this year. The Dart block is a two piece seal so I had McLeod make me a 20lb flywheel, reused the Centerforce clutch because I couldn't find a dual disc clutch I liked, and installed a Lakewood 15015 scattershield. To many other mods to list but as someone said, you'd be surprised how nice a MMC is to drive. Anyone having questions can always email me personally and I'll be happy to answer any questions. bobglf@aol.com Bob

Hmm, I see I have never posted in here so here are my specs.
1990 Camaro World Class T5 Factory F-body hydrolick clutch setup and modified F-body pedals to fit in the SS. Stock replacement clutch and resurfaced flywheel 4" aluminum driveshaft 49.5 inches long, bought from Tri5ss here on the site(THANKS JOHN!) Modified a factory F-body shifter to fit center on the SS console. Bassicly stock 305 engine with TPI, stock 7.5 posi with bearing support cover.
This spring it will have a roller 350 with a zz4 cam and probably 9.5-1 compression and a 8.5 Cutlass 442 rearend.
I love the way my SS drives with the manual transmission!

Hey Gent, it's been a long time since I've posted :). I've been driving my T-56 Manual Monte, since November of 1998 :). Been way too busy with work, travel, and other projects to post. Hmmm, can't believe that I didn't see this thread but it could be that I've been all around the world for work the past year and now I'm in Italy for the next 12 months! I guess the next round of Monte Mods will have to wait for now :>(
