Wow, that's quite a story about your dad's aerocoupe.

I would love to find a car such as this. I've wanted to own an '86 - '88 SS or Aerocoupe for years. (like I need another car)

Good luck with whatever you decide to do with the car.

That is a good barn find! Hope it cleans up well and there aren't any major scratches or dents from those boxes. That kind of storage can be real hard on a car.

Cross your fingers for the dents, but there will definately be alot of scratches. Mom has Border Collies and she used to let them play "king of the mountain" on the car... I totally FREAKED when I saw that one. I was especially upset because I had polished the paint and detailed the interior for Dad. Couldn't figure out then why there were so darn many scratches!

She and Dad "discussed" the issue and the dogs learned some manners. Some, but not alot...

What a story!! The pics amazed me!!

I would like to a "Monte barn find" in my area. Found one for two 63 Impalas. But I'm a Monte guy.

Very interested in seeing the pics once you get a chance to hose it down.

Just got back with Dad's car. I spent close to 3 hours cleaning it... It is not clean by any means, but all the dead mice are gone, the wasp nest in the passenger side (SURPRISE GAHHHHH~!!) and I've cleaned all the spider webs off.

The paint is completely shot and the hap-hazard storage has taken its toll in little dents on many of the panels. The mice did not get any wiring (at least what I can see) and nothing is missing from the car. Except, oddly enough, all the fuses and the flasher unit are gone. I have no explanation for this and neither does my father. But trust me, they are DEFINATELY gone!

Took over two hours for my mom, my 11 year old son and myself to get the car dragged onto the trailer.

Next time I'll make sure the parking brake is RELEASED!

I'll post pics tomorrow, too tired to retrieve the camera from the pickup truck...

Ah man that sucks to hear about the dents/scratches. Luckily the factory paint on these cars leave much to be desired ;\)

Mice are never a good sign, it's easy to get rid of the mice themselves but hard to get rid of the smell and all the nests and mouse poop.

Good luck cleaning it up, I don't envy you at all on the clean up!

Okay, I decided to stop being so lazy and post some pictures in my album. Seemed rather rude not too - especially with all the encouragement given by this site members.

So pics are up (I can't put pics in until I have a few more posts). But they are in the album.

I did catch kind of a lucky break on the nasty nice. The heat in the shed is so oppressive it mummified everything. There is literally no smell in that car at all. That won't stop me from dismantling the interior for a thorough leaning however... A very very thorough cleaning!

I have eight pics in the album now including those shot yesterday after the cleaning. As a "newbie" I can't post pics until I have 30 posts. But you are quite welcome to view the album.

On to the hideous - dead mice are SO gross... Turned out, they didn't eat the wiring - thank heavens.

Interior. Headliner is down, that will be among the first of the projects. It creeps me out to have it touch my head knowing there could have been mice in it.

It many have some issues but I'd still take it.

The mice thing, owning Classic cars I know all TOO well rodents & old cars do not mix!!!!

I had a chipmonk trying to live in my barn. I tried chasing the little varmit out but he just played hide n seek with me. I even took my cat in the barn but they became best buds. My cat was out there giving the chipmonk a bath.

I thought it finally left, till I noticed the nice smell of decaying meat. I couldn't find this thing anywhere. And obviously neither could the flies. A month later and my barn still smelled like decaying meat. Finally one day I was moving my 4-door out to get my Wagon out. I pulled the quilt back I layed over my car cover and there was what was left of the chipmonk stuck to my car cover. And my car smelled real nice inside. For a few weeks now I've left the car cover off the car and the windows down. I even put two air fresheners in the car to help get rid of the smell. So far it's helped.

Lookin' great! Ya know, professionals wet sanded and buffed some pretty nasty scratches out of our daily driver. I'd give it a once over with a random orbital polisher, if you have one, and a good polishing compound. Depending on what's left, you could see what a pro would charge to work on the remaining scratches.

Quite a bit of the nasty stuff on the paint will come out. The hood has the classic 80's GM "lacquer check" look. No fixing that. But the rest will improve. I can probably get it all the way up to "poor" if I work on it.

Leaving for a business trip for about a week. I'll give a hand to getting it running when I return. Fill all-ya-all in on the details of THAT particular adventure.

Angela, the 30 post limit for posting pictures hasn't been in affect for quite some time (since we switched over to the new photo album software). It sounds like someone gave you stale information. I'm curious, are you seeing some wording somewhere that states this limit is still in affect, or were you told this? I need to correct any wording that may be out there. You should be able to post all the images you have in the photo album here on this site regardless of user level. Let me know if you run into problems.

Car is looking good! Sounds like quite a project!

Glad to see it cleaned up nice! Do you have plans on painting it or are you just going to go ahead and try cleaning up the original paint?

All of these pics are great, expecially if you are going to try to sell it as people will be able to see just how much work you put into the car as well as be able to see the car was not a complete rust bucket before you started or anything.

Paul - I did a search of threads to find out how to post pictures. One of them mentioned the 30 post rule - I believe it was an old thread. I mistakenly assumed that was still the case but another memeber suggested the photobucket route. Works great!

Randy - I'll clean the paint up. It will be ratty when it is done but it will be original and honest. What you see is what you get no surprises. In the past, my husband has talked about repainting this car for my Dad. But not at this point. Car will be sold with the existing paint.
