I've only come across a few monte carlo's with 20 inch rims. I plan on putting some on this summer (im in MN). I was wondering if anyone knew the rims specifications for 20's???(backspacing etc). Are there are any websites that show this This??Any other info about this would really help a a lot. Thanks for your time

Richard Bardin's 87 Aerocoupe has 20's in the rear, 18's up front. I doubt you could fit 20's up front.

i'm pretty sure you can fit 20s up front. i saw a monte with 20s on it. i've seen a few pictures around the internet with 20s. search cardomain.com. i believe there is at least one person with 20s on an 80s monte there.

Here's one http://www.montecarloss.com/SuperChevy/SCS3-17-49.jpg 20x8's with 255/35/20 front 285/30/20 out back. It doesn't say what kinda back spacing. But about the widest you can go on the front would be 8" on the front w/4" backspace and 9.5 in back w/5" backspace. Depending on the section width of the tire you may have to modify (notch) the framerails. IMO 18's are the way to go! \:D

I've seen a couple of G-Bodys in my area with 20"s, look like they have a really BIG turning radius. Not my preference either. Plus I think it makes them look like a Tahoe.

ahh you will always get alot of shame on big custom rims on a more stock/performance oreinated board. I had 20s on my 84 cutlass, They ran fine on my car, front and back no scrubbing. 255/35 tires. However before i put em on, i put new stock ride height springs all around. 20s are something else on the suspension. Makes sure you have the busings replaced where needed. But man did i love it!! Email me for pictures if ya wana see.

be prepared to pay out the a$$ for tires. I'll always roll 15's, cause when 20's go out of style i'll be ahead of the game.

haha that was the main reason i bought 15x8" wheels cuz i didn't want to pay the extra cash for the 16 inch tires...i got through rear tires pretty fast anyway so since i can get the 15 inch tires for cheaper i think its the way to go....plus i like the beefer look anyways

Greetings folks,

I've not tried 20" rims, but assuming that one conserves tire diameter in the process to the stock value of roughly 25.6", then the increase in rim diameter will make for a shorter, and therefore stiffer, tire sidewall. This is good in terms of steering transient response, but usually bad in terms of ride quality (especially if combined with a high speed rating) and likelihood of rim damage traversing severe bumps.

My experience is that G-bodies don't normally take kindly to short, stiff tire sidewalls, as the resulting ride tends to become subjectively harsh and jiggly. YMMV!

Best,
MAP

Granted, I think they look great with 20's, but there is no way in hell I would drive a car with $2000 worth of rims that are just begging to be bent or even busted! Seems like a trailer queen only item.

I still like the look of a nice 16" rim, but have considered 17's also.

To each his own, just my $.02

I just bought 17" eims on Sat and now i'm looking for tires and to tell you the truth the tires are the much more then 15's. I paind 55 bucks a tire for BFG Radials 245/60/15 and i'm now lloking at 245/45/zr17 for the new rims in BFG Comp T/A's for 94 bucks a tire so really its not that bad now 20's are too much money and to much rim not enough tire JMO Thanks
