I have an 81 Monte cl, and its been a project for some time. It went from a straitline care with the bare minimum, and is slowely being changed into more of a driveable scca car. I have been
trying to decide on how to minitub the car and at the same time ditch the 4 link, and retain the original trailing arm mounts (nothing has been cut out) My goal is to fit 335 on 17's. any ideas or pictures of this type of chassis work
id really like to see. Thanks

why do you want to rid your self of the 4-link? and what are you planing on putting in there instead of a 4-link?mini tubbing is not hard if you can weld. cut thw old wheel wells out, and weld some new ones in. you can notch the frame rails to almost paper thin, but make sure you have some type of cross bracing between the two frame rails. a friend of mine has tubs, and very notched frame rails on his bu, the frame itself is no more than a 1/4in thich but the car go straight in the 8's cause of the bracing and suspension.

You can section the frame so that it`s flush with the inner wheel wells, open up the radius of the ends of the wheel wells and fit 315s on 10 wheels with perfect backspacing. There are some pics of this mod on the Your SS forum posted by jwz87 (I did the job at my shop BTW \:\) ). 335s will leave the frame one layer thick and very weak,to do it right you`ll have to hack the rails off and backhalf it. Are you planning on swapping in torque arm,3 link or something else? Marcus

Also found this link from John B... Notched Looks really good. Lots of info on that post. I think he can fit 315's on there now?
