Anyone done a serpentine system with all accessories & smog pump?? At a reasonable price? Any junk-yard cars fit??

I read about one done in Car Craft? It was done on an SS also. I think they just used a Camaro setup, and only had to drill one hole in the driver's side head, if I remember correctly. Remember, a small block is a small block in "any body".

You should be able to find one that doesn't need any holes drilled. Look for 87(?)-92 F-body(Camaro/Firebird), 86 and older still used V belts. Or look for a 88-93 full size truck with the 4.3L V6 or SBC, or 88 and newer S-10 with 4.3L V6.

You may have to use some extra parts for some of these setups to work. For example, the F-body AC compressor and alternator are on oppostie sides compared to your car-you will have to use the AC hoses from the Camaro. Also the newer CS series alternators use a different connector, so you will need to do some wiring. Good luck.

GM PART #12497698 Serpentine Accessory Belt Drive System includes all accessories, pulleys and brackets. Anyone familiar with this set-up?

I have an 87 Elcamino with a 305 and I put a Serpentine belt system in from an 89 Pontiac TransAm. I got the setup when I bought a TPI from the same car. When my AC gave out I began the swap. If you get all of the parts from the parts car the installation goes fairly easily. Yes, you have to switch the AC compressor and the Alternator, which needs some rewire work but not too much. Also, you have to change the hose from the "new" compressor to the condenser but that is the only major change. It is also the time to make the change to electric fans and a new radiator. I paid $300 for all of the parts. The TPI may go on this winter.

I checked into that GM serpentine conversion kit a year or 2 ago. It is a complete kit, but I think it was over $800. You should be able to find a good setup at a junk yard for much less.

It must be heavy due to the shipping costs. I looked it up and shipping alone was 125.00 but it can be gotten for around 750.00 including shipping.

BobJ - Thanks for the info. The site has a unit for $200. What is the shipping and handling cost? Will my existing fan clutch work OK in reverse?

At my local junk yard the price is 50 bucks for the whole set up of a 4.3 S-10. Yes it will fit the front of the 4.3 is identical to small blocks in fact the 4.3 is a 350 with the rear two cylinders cut off.

MONTESSMAN - The yards her are asking $350 for a complete system. Go to your junk yard and get it, and I'll pay you $50 plus shipping.

I had to get a fan blade that would pull air while rotating the opposite direction as the stock fan.I used the stock clutch, but had to make studs to mount it to the water pump(different size threads, thank you Mr. Dremel)

THANKS TO EVERYONE - I got loads of info from everyone, and decided to try to find a good used system. Hope I can find one for less than half the new GM price, with a limited warranty. Looking at http://www.thirdgenresources.com and calling local junk yards. Ebay units are relatively low price, but sold "as-is".

Remember to check out the later model Caprices 88-93 TBI engines which also use the same set up.
