Have any of you fine ladies or gentleman ever heard of removing the steering shaft to get the rubber out of the equation and replacing it with a astro van lower shaft. i was told it is a direct swap. not feeling 40 year old rubber on my steering shaft,if you have may i have the years this will work. Thanks in advance

I used the 96-05 2wd astro steering shaft and have seen no negative effects and like how it looks.

There is a Jeep Cherokee shaft that is often used as well, but it sometimes requires a little work to collapse. I don't think anyone has regretted either swap.

The astro shaft installed, not sure whybthe picture is so big.

The XJ cherokees worked, at least for part of hte run. Pretty common swap. Collapsing them is easy with a propane torch. I have one on both of my SS's and would never go back to a rag joint.
