Can I just take the beeper out? Where is it?? See...I had a problem with the horn etc not working, and found a fuse missing...well fixing one problem seems to have caused another. Ideas, anyone?? If the chime is where it *seems* to be it doesn't look like an easy place to reach...and what does it look like?? Sorry I really don't know much about electrical stuff, but I'd really like to figure at least this much out. Originally dad told me where the horn relay was but it looks like there are two in there (or two flashers??) Anyhoo...any tips or help much appreciated. Thanks, Michelle

Its right above the parking brake is kind of right behind the lower left side of the gauge cluster. I dont have a picture but you will be able to see it if you look straight up from the parking brake pedal. Its a bracket thats bolted to the dash. As far as the horn not working and the fuse being out im guessing it was the ctsy/clock fuse? This also powers up the chime I believe. For the chime staying on I would check the headlight switch. Does the chime go out when you turn the ignition on? Im sure this all sounds confusing hopefully it helped some. My guess is the chime was staying on someone pulled the fuse to stop it which also made the horn not work.

The clock fuse fixed the horn, but now the ignition chime stays on once you start the car. It doesn't go out at all once the key is in the "on" mode. I figured I'd at least just take the silly thing out until I can get a real mechanic to look at it (ie, dad) He doesn't have time right now to do anything with it and I've just been tinkering in the spare bay after hours. From what I could see (there's a under-dash light partially blocking the view) there's the 2 flashers, a relay, and then a small black box thing right above them...is that it? It looks like it's zip-tied in though... I don't know!!

I'm with rob in that it might be the headlight-on alert as opposed to any key thing. I can't remember a key reminder either, since I've locked mine in my car at the worst times, thousands of miles from home!

Oh. Ok. Either way, it's not going to hurt anything if I take that black noisemaking box out, right?

It could also be your ignition switch not turning off the power to the chime. My key chime only works when i push the ignition switch in and hold it. Also, a REALLY stupid question but are you leaving your door open when this is happening? It will go off when the car isnt running but the key in the ignition. Also could be the driver door switch not closing.

It doesn't happen at all unless the door is open or the switch is in the "on" position. If I start the car, it's on, or if I turn the key to "on" it's still making noise.
The door switch works fine (the chime does work when the door is ajar, and does shut off when the door is closed)
Otherwise, it only turns on when the key switch is on, it even stays on when the car is started.
I'm just going to take the chime out anyway.

So with the car running and the door closed, the chime is not sounding, right? If so, it sounds like everything is working as it should.

See, I understand if the door is ajar it should make a noise...and it does. If I close the door and just sit in the car (without the keys in the ignition) the sound stops. If I, say, leave the door shut and decide to turn on the car, the minute I turn the key the sound turns on again. And stays on, even after the car is started, even when driving with the doors shut. LOL I know, I was having a hard time explaining it between ignition on/noisemaker on. Sorry if I confused anyone. I just meant to say that I don't think it's working right and I just want to take the noisemaker out... Thanks.

...stays on, even after the car is started, even when driving with the doors shut... Ok, that definitely isn't right!

I'm still going to say its got to be something with the ignition switch. When the car is running and the door is closed, try to wiggle the switch in and out or turn it a little like you are going to crank it over or shut it off. If the chime stops then the switch is worn inside and needs to be replaced. There also could be a bad ground in the circuit and is back feeding through the chime when the car is on.

Ok, joe jogged my memory too. It is ignition related, but should only do it if the ignition is turned on. When I'm working on mine, with the door open, if I wiggle it, it will go off. There's also that push button switch, for the interior lights, that might be wired in there somewhere. Maybe the switch closes the circuit for the lights AND the ignition switch when the door is open.

http://www.maliburacing.com/wiring_diagrams/LightSwitch.jpghttp://www.maliburacing.com/wiring_diagrams/Clock-Cigar-CourtesyLights.jpgNotice that the key alarm switch is the one int the drivers side door - I think that is your problem - it's probably shorted out.. And if you find the tan wire coming from behind the kick panel and disconnect it - you should be golden.. Replace that switch and all should be good.. Explains why the fuse was missing!! Another possibility is a short in the headlight switch back feeding into the alarm.. But the door closing should stop even that as it's supposed to open the circuit upon the door closing..

Many thanks...I was a bit confused. Sorry guys, my communication skills are lacking. I really need to learn how to word things a little better. I'll check it out tonight if the spare bay is free.

Reigniting an old thread, because I am at a loss.
Last night I installed a new switch in my dash. A simple toggle for my lock up converter. I used the factory original pink w/ black and purple pig tail. I put the dash back together and now whenever the key is in the on or start position the ignition chime blares non stop. I've tried wiggling and pushing the ignition roller and nothing. Chime is still blaring. I checked my door jamb switch and headlight switch. Both seem to be working as intended. I could just pull the chime, but I'd rather have it working properly. Does anyone have any other ideas of what I could check? Maybe I bumped something under the dash. My new switch is from under the defrost switch with wires down to the converter lock up brake switch.

At this point I am tempted to just change the ignition switch, as the dash is already blow apart. It's the only think I may have bumped when running wires for my switch.

To narrow it down, you can take pins a,c and h out from the convenience center one at a time and see when the noise stops.

There's a plan. Do you know what the convenience center looks like?
EDIT: Looks like its the piece the chime plugs into under the dash.

UPDATE:
The "fasten seat" belt light seems to have been the issue. I pulled the convenience center and tested pins as suggested. The dash light itself wasn't working. I wiggled it some and everything seems to be working appropriately now.
