CELEBRATING 20 YEARS!

Just pulled the computer and harness out. There's still a connector for power steering, oil pressure sensor, and I think it's a throttle sensor on the passenger fender liner. If I'm understanding correctly, thr oil pressure sensor on the back of the block is for the ecm which shouldn't be needed, right? So what am I to do with these other connectors? Do I strip the loom back and cut them short? It's unsightly, having them dangle around unused.


Also, does the harness under the dash just stay open?

I should clarify, I have an 87. Things are slightly different. My AC, alternator, and temp sensor are all tied into a harness coming from behind the master cylinder that also has the top side oil pressure sensor, PS sensor, mixture solenoid, the 5 pin sensor that was next to the ignitor, and a couple others. I'm wanting to know the correct way to remove the unnecessary connectors.

First picture it will not hurt to leave them tucked away.

Second picture is your engine oil pressure switch its circuit is on the top side of the schematic, when it senses over 4 psi the switch closes and it sends power to your choke heater and also goes to your oil/ choke indicator on right side of dash. I removed the brown wire headed to the computer. I wanted to retain my choke heater and oil/choke indicator. The oil pressure sender to the gauge is mounted above the oil filter.

Third picture is plug that goes to power steering pressure switch. I removed this switch and installed a power steering hose off a non ac car. As you can see in the below diagram the dk green wire comes from the ac pressure cycling switch to the power steering switch, then leaves a green white wire to power the ac clutch. I still have ac so I came straight from the ac pressure cycling switch with the dark green wire straight to the ac compressor clutch.

Not sure on the other connecter in the picture looks like the connector to the water temp sensor that goes to your gauge but I would need to know wire colors.

Fourth picture is the connector for the electronic spark control module and you shouldn't need any of that wiring. Here is the schematic. At the end of the day depending on what you are wanting to function on your car you will have to make the decision what you remove on all the circuits above. Hope this helps and all these schematics are from the 1988 service manual.

Wow you are a life saver! Thank you so much. The other connector in that one photo is just the temp sensor I was holding together to show its loomed together. Just to clarify, that large connector under the dash isn't needed for anything now? It's strange to me that there is something like a dozen wires in the dash that don't need used.

If you have an electric choke that oil pressure switch to the left of the dist is used for that.

You can leave the power steering hose and switch in like it is, I just decided to remove it. It will probably be tomorrow before I can tell you exactly what the 2 plugs go to under the right side of the dash. I know some goes to the obd1 aldl connector from the computer but I can't remeber the rest.

It looks like the 5 pin connector is for the fast idle relay. I'm reading in other posts that it's controlled by the ECM. I'd love to know if I'm supposed to cut the wires back and cap them or if there's a way to fool it into functioning standalone. It would be nice to retain the idle up function.

You are correct, I looked the the picture and thought it was spark control. Both are mounted on same bracket on the passengers side fender. I did away with relay and connected the dk blue and the lt green to trigger my idle stop solenoid on the carb

Very much appreciated! What do I do with the brown wire? Looks like it's coming from the HVAC harness into the relay and stops. Do I cut and cap that wire? Also, have you found what the other connection under the dash is for, that rests next to the ALDL connection by the ECM?

Here's a better photo. I understand light green to blue, but there still remains a tan/brown wire. Can anyone tell me if this is capped sent to another wire? It's literally the last wire I need to sort out before this part of the project is done. I've bled the search function dry between here and Google, to no avail.
