Well, for one there is no factory relay-it's an on/off switch which is always hot and when you hit your button, it ground the coil which makes your window go up/down. To keep from burning up the switch, GM incorporates a certain amount of resistance into the circuit (how much I don't know...) to avoid melting the switch-much like the ballist resistor built into your factory headlight switch. To circumvent this, wire a relay so the window switch now carries virtually no current-it now acts a an on/off switch to activate the relay-the relay now handles the load instead of the switch-obviously a faster window means less resistance i.e. voltage drop but I'm sure somebody can post readings with and without a relay for those who are curious. -Jabin

yea thats interesting...so adding the erlay will be like giving the window switches direct power...I've noticed hot wiring the motors they jump up then go back to snail paced when using the switches

sorry to bump a really old post but it had some good info i did not know and i think others will appreciate it. would anyone by chance have a drawn out diagram of the wiring needed to do this? a detailed description or diagram would be very nice.

Yea I would like to see a wiring diagram of this my windows are very slow goning up but ok goning down.

My windows did the same thing. I went and replaced the driver side regulator and the window switch. The window would barely go up and finally it stopped going up. I went and replaced the regulator and the switch and bingo all perfect now. I just got in a new regulator for the passenger side to do tomorrow.

But, i to would love to see the diagramfor the relay idea. I think it makes better sence to do it that way. I do notice a big voltage drop when i use my window switch I see the gauge drop and then come back up after i let go. So, someone please draw up or post the picture. Looking forward to seeing it.

well i dont think anyone has a wiring diagram already made up but maybe some of you that are good at wiring could make one up for the rest of us.

i just did the CS alternator conversion and all went very smooth. its worth the money no doubt. with the stock alt i was only getting 12.6 volts and 600-700RPM with the lights and electric fans running. now no matter what i do the volts on the battery and the alt stay at a constant 14.45 volts at the same 600-700RPM idle. VERY NICE. anyone has any questions feel free to ask away

I had the same problem. I installed a new motor and it works fast now.

I could swear someone on this board did the window relay thing and uploaded diagrams last year but I can't find the post.....

The 4th post down explains it pretty well. If only I could find relays locally.. you wouldnt believe how much trouble I went through trying to find them for my fans.

I think I' going to do this after I lube up my tracks. I'll make up a diagram if I do.

I replaced my motor with Camaro I think much faster motors suck do some research there is a bolt in from a different gm much better

This may help. This diagram is for a Cutlass, but I believe Monte and most G-bodies share similar setups. 4 Single Pole Double Throw relays needed. No guarantees this will match up pin to pin and wire to wire with the Monte setup, but I know it will work for a Cutlass 2 door.
