Under what circumstances are our 2004R lockup converters supposed to unlock at? Is it
A. When we tap the brake
B. When the PROM tells is to when coasting down in speed from about 50mph unlocking at about 30mph
C. When letting off the accelerator briefly at about 50mph or above, then locking when we touch the accelerator again.

Thanks to all!

A and B. I believe a 3rd gear/4th gear switch in the trans opens and inputs the ECM to unlock the converter when in 3rd gear downshift.

1) Brakes should always cause the converter to unlock (switch on brake pedal)
2) vacuum switch unlocks converter when under vacuum when accelerating (switch on manifold)
3) 4th to 3rd unlocks converter (converter should only lock in 4th - internal transmission 4th gear pressure switch)

I've never known it to unlock while coasting as mine tends to stay in 4th until I'm going pretty slow.

With that said, I have a Bowler setup and have a switch where the rear defrost button was to enable it and turn on lockup. I normally only drive around locally so not a lot of highway or long distance where lockup would be helpful.

What everyone said...taking a peak in TunerPro 1988SS_L69, there's a TPS vs speed table meaning if you blip the throttle fast enough at a given speed it should unlock. Below 38mph in 4th gear. Also I see below 80mph in 3rd gear. Couldn't find anything that's MAP kPa dependent.

Throttle position volts most likely cause the converter to unlock when accelerating.
