CELEBRATING 20 YEARS!

When new, there was a paper sticker on top of the evaporator box in addition to the foil Harrison 60 service warning. I remember this sticker was paper without a laminate and after a few engine washes it wrinkled up and I scraped it off. My guest is this sticker must have be an assembly tag, meant to identify the proper part for the assembly line. I have seen cars with a sticker in the same place when converted from R-12 to R-134. I am asking about the factory tag.

Did anybody save this sticker on their car? If so send a pic and size. Thanks.

Don't know about your car, but I'll assume it was built in Arlington. And I can only speculate that the paper sticker on top of the HVAC housing was the ECM duplicate sticker. This way the tech could check the ECM model, etc., without having to go into the interior and remove the ECM from it's hiding place. As you point out, it was made of paper and if it ever survived, it would be a miracle.

Wow. Yeah, those are for an 85 442. Those are ones I had done. They're made of mylar, which isn't paper and they're water resistant. They'll last a lot longer.

If I had the right codes and ECM numbers, etc., I could probably make some for those that need them.

Is it CPY code for 85 MCSS? I can do something with that, perhaps.

69hurstolds. That was the sticker that I was inquiring about. You are correct about my car being produced at the Arlington Plant. Ordered during October 1983. Delivered 23 November 1983.

I never heard of it being a duplicate ECM sticker. Whatever it was, it was only intended for the assembly line. I did a better job of saving other stickers and made some close copies playing on the computer. I may try puling my kick panel and see if the ECM sticker looks like your pic. I assume you got this pic from surfing the net of a low mileage original?

I'm going to guess yours is CDM ECM box. Something that looks like this. The stickers came in two parts, with a perforation between them. One went on the ECM box, the other went on the HVAC housing. Or should have. This only occurred on the Arlington built cars in the 84 and 85 model year, best I can find. There may be others, but I haven't seen any...good intentions I guess.

Take a decent picture of yours (readable) and I can duplicate it. Even out of paper if you're daring. But it's better if it's done in mylar (plastic). Not factory correct down to the core, but it won't simply curl up and fall off it if gets wet. And doesn't attract dirt. They're not impervious so don't wash the decals with anything stronger than mild soap/water. Or scrub them hard, and they should last a long time.

If you look at your ECM box, it might look something like this:

I am going out of town this weekend and will take a look next week. For sure, I will take a picture and measure the tag. If it is loose enough to take off without destroying the decal, I will try it and scan a copy.

The first and last time that I removed the kick panel was in 1986 to put in a HyperTech chip.

IIRC, the decal should be approx 1.75" tall x 5" wide.

I can make two of them and then perforate them if you like, or I can make a straight cut where they would perforate the paper. Your call. It can be ready when you are...see proofing below. Never mind the outside box, that's just for referencing.

If you can simply take a readable picture of it, that should suffice.

Pulled out my ECM today. The decal is identical to the above except for one number sequence: 40676897 (above) vs 46413657 (my car). The decal measured 1 3/4 x 4 7/8 in. Given the wrinkles in the decal, it likely measures 1 3/4 x 5 in.

Yeah, the 464.... number is likely a serial number. But nobody seems to know for sure what all that means. The 63611 after the 8 is the original last 5 of the ECM part number.

Ok, more than a minute, but...how do you like it now? If you have a bar code scanner, even the barcode comes up with your number.

Oh, it appears the top one goes on the ECM (rounded corners on top with perforations on bottom) and the bottom half goes on the HVAC unit as applicable. This is based purely off of what I've seen.

Agree. The decal on the ECM had rounded corners on the top and 90 degree corners along the perforation bottom side. My IT department (17 year old son) is still at practice.
