What material were the original factory intake manifold gaskets for HO L69 305s? Everyone only sells steel shim style intake gaskets even through it is recommended to not use steel gaskets with aluminum intakes.

Never pulled the intake on the 305, gave the engine away and it was transplanted in 64 Vette for a 16 year old girl to drive, temporarily.

Don't remember seeing steel intakes gaskets.

Fel Pro has a intake gasket with steel at it's center, but not faces.
I use a Fel Pro 1205 S3.

Looking online everyone lists coated steel shim gaskets with embossed lips around the ports, even Fel Pro for stock MCSSs. I looked at the Fel Pro printoseals and they lack sealing beads for the EGR vacuum ports. All SBC intakes with EGR have two additional vacuum ports next to the 6th cylinder intake port. They dead end againt the head but still require sealing beads to avoid vacuum leaks.

Early LG4s did use iron intakes which could have used steel shim gaskets. However, later LG4s and all L69s used aluminum intakes which I heard should be sealed with non steel gaskets?

A company called Magnum listed printed seal bead gaskets that include EGR port beads for SBCs, even have them pictured. After ordering it I recieved coated steel shim gaskets, not the advertised printed seal gaskets, probably going to return them. JEGs lists they have a private label printed bead seal intake gaskets that include EGR port beads, might give them a try.

I pulled a bunch of stock intakes back in the day doing cam swaps. They were thin coated steel embossed gaskets much like the Felpro 1204, except black. I don't recall them making any indentions on the intakes. I could get a discount and used the MR Gasket Ultra-Seal 5820 back then- never had an issue with them or any of the composite FelPro gaskets.

If this is what you're looking for, and you trust the picture and description from Summit, the Chevrolet Performance 10147994 is a fiber gasket with raised areas similar to the stock gaskets.

Thanks for the replies. Currently I have GM ZZ4 intake gaskets in the engine which I installed a fes years ago. They are the steel shim type with a thin grey coating. It just seems anytime the car sits for a long period it develops a new vacuum leak somewhere.
