Looks great! Swap RPO decals too or just put them both on the trunklid? And I didn’t think there would be any rear seat brace difference unless that’s something I didn’t know with Aero’s. Starting by 87’ or maybe when it changed from Arlington to Pontiac the body has the diagonal part added to the rear seat brace. My 87’ has it, my 86’ doesn’t.

The 1987 rear seat bracing is interesting. My 1987 aerocoupe has the diagonal braces and my 1986 non-aerocoupe does not. I never knew there was a rear seat bracing change.

Thanks, all. I had overlooked the seat bracing. I wasn't even aware they'd changed designs at one point. I do know he didn't change anything in that area. They are the same design between both cars involved. I'm headed to pick up the car this weekend and will get some better photos posted up!

Swap is mostly done. The glass is only rested in there until paint. From here, updates will be a little slow, as I don't have major plans until winter. After that, I'll be diving in on it.

Paint? It looks fantastic, Justin, unless the camera is hiding something.

Why were the rear side windows removed during the swap?

Thank you. The paint isn't flawless, even in its best areas. The car was not too well repaired from a small wreck at some point, and the nose is broken in the park lamp area. Between that and the old trunk lid having bad paint, I'm having it painted properly and get it looking 100%. It's difficult to see in photos, but the stripes aren't exactly correct, either. The SS logos and top stripe are almost an apricot color. The quarter windows were out because this car had the VIN acid etching in the glass that I'm doing away with. Finding door glass and t-tops clean enough will be a challenge, though all else is handled.

Looks great from here. I've heard others comment on stripes not being the right color, I always assume it's just faded/discolored over the years.

Any plans other than the paint and glass? Plan to keep it stock? And how does it feel to drive one again?

Thanks, Paul. I'm planning a tasteful build. Nothing that's going to twist the car up into a ball or make it look trashy. I have a fab guy that's going to box in the frame, do the frame notch, and torque box gussets. Suspension, 12 bolt, mild big-inch small block, etc. It'll be clean, I promise.

Feels good driving it. Though it still feels like I'm borrowing someone else's car. Idk, hasn't quite set in yet.

Getting ready for paint over winter, where I can finally seal up the window and drive it. NOS nose, fender extensions, t-top weatherstripping, and hood are ordered. Last week, I had some PDR work done and the trunk lid repaired from when the towing company backed the car into something that left a quarter size indentation by the lock. Shooting for first week of August to do the t-top weatherstripping and get a new windshield installed. After that, it's off to paint. Oh, and for good measure, I got a CarCapsule. It alleviates the daily worry about something scratching it, falling on it, whatever, all while keeping it clean. Almost forgot, I was able to source some nearly flawless door glass. Currently in the process of cleaning them up.

The original owner decided RTV was a great way to seal up leaking t-tops, hvac box, basically anything and everything he could. What a ridiculous mess to clean up.

So glad you are restoring your Aero, I have been working on mine since 1995!! Started with it being my daily driver.. saved the car with bodywork and the paint..and stored it for 15 yrs... family and kids came along and like yourself I am in my 40s now and finally getting closer to the Aerocoupe I envisioned. 1987 Aerocoupe Black/Oxblood 450hp 383 Stroker motor and have changed pretty much every other part on car. Godspeed.
