I can’t get the speedometer cable off the dash pushed the release button but it won’t come loose been on it off and on for two days don’t want to force it and break something. And ideas to get it to come off. Thanks. John

John, If the 88 is the same as an 86, there is a spring type clip that has to be pushed toward the speedo it's self to release the cable, good luck!!

Yep, spring clip is at the low side, attached to the back side of the speedo, and needs to be pushed forward. Try pushing the speedo cable forward toward the back of the speedo to release tension on the clip first. It's a real PITA getting your fingers in there.

I sent you a pic, via email, of the back side of the speedo.

The cable just slides over the end of the speedo and the clip holds the raised end of the cable from coming back out. I'm thinking the clip isn't releasing because the cable is not fully seated in the back of the speedo. Try turning the end of the cable a little at the speedo and then slide it toward the speedo, then try the release clip.

It's possible someone might have been there before and had a similar problem and used force to disengage the clip. I've done that removal several times and never had a problem other than it's tight quarters.

Thanks every one for the attempt but I’ve tried everything that every one has said and still no solution. I found the best way after all that cut it out and ran a new one. After that the problem was it was jammed badly but it’s out now thanks again.
