I'm doing searches for a different issue (need a CCC dist. parts blow-up for reassembly) and interested in the 'mistakes' that you suffered. It's been over a year so maybe just useful for future fellas if you've got everything ironed out by now. Buying the wrong parts is just part of the normal modding learning curve. The 'wrong' carb and 'wrong' cam can be remedied by either exchanges or simply biting the bullet and taking your hard-earned experience to purchase the correct items and simply selling what you bought earlier - where it may suit someone else's needs better. And yes, making a statement about "CCC crap" (or the more popular 'Q-Jet Doorstop' ) really gets some riled up since the CCC design is/was very efficient and a sophisticated setup of its time. I swapped over ALL the CCC with my initial 406 and later now with the current 383 - Very Satisfied.

383 11:1 plugged/decked 1pc. roller sbc with 2pc. RMS adapter and forged rotating assem., Canfield alum 215/65, Howards Hyd. Roller 226/234 525/532 -110, CCCQ-Jet on AirGap, Bilsteins & 2/3 coil off OEM's in front, & Intrax Impala SS coils in rear.

Actually, there really is no need to do away with the CCC system, it'll most likely work fine with your 383. I installed a 355 in my 86 and sent the carb to my carb guy, www.customrebuiltcarbs.com for tweaking to set it for a 355. It ran cleaner than the 305 when I had to do emissions the next time around.

I think it’s due to my car. It was for a non computer controlled system. So I have a non ccc cam, carb, distributor.
