Is $100 a good price for an original dual snorkel air cleaner in good shape off an 80's Camaro? I have been thinking about doing a setup and came across one. Just wondering before I go buy it. Thanks

Is that the entire setup which includes the air cleaner, lid, two flex hoses and the two plastic ducts that are part of the setup. I paid $10 for the first F dual air cleaner only I ran across, it wasn't in very good condition, gave it away after I found another in VG condition for $20. These air cleaners are hard to find these days, $100 may be a little pricey.

You reuse the top lid from your L69, that allows you to use the 3" tall L69 filter, the F uses a 2" tall filter and different lid.

I bought the two F flex hoses new and the plastic ducts. The flex hoses are necesary to attach to the ducts on the air cleaner as they aren't a standard 4" size at the snorkel. After several attemps to make the plastic ducts fit above the rad support I threw them aside and made 4" couples to attach a longer length of 4" duct and ran them thru the rad support to pick up air right above the bumper shocks.

If you have A/C you will have compressor interferrence with the snorkel. I reindexed the air cleaner for clearance. The hot air flex pipe connects to the left side of the cleaner, G is on the right, I drilled out the spot welds and move the ducting to the right side. If you still have the AIR system you will need to add hole in the air cleaner to run the bypass hose form the AIR diverter.

You have to be carefull about clearance between the air cleaner thermal valve located under the air cleaner, clearance between it and the carb air valve linkage is very close. I run three stacked air cleaner gaskets to get the clearance needed.

If you rotate the air cleaner for A/C compressor clearance it will effect the fresh air pipe that runs from the air cleaner to the valve cover. I fabricated my own pipe for here.

The sheetmetal the snorkets are made of very thin steel and will deform easily at the edges. I welded in two 1/8" rods in the opening to prop up the snorkel to prevent collaspe.

If you want some pics email me at bobglf@aol.com and I'll send you a few.

Everything is included except the two flex hoses but I thought I could replace those easily. I guess $100 is kind of high. Bob, if you could send me some pics at benmeyer90@yahoo.com I would greatly appreciate it.

There you go man, what a deal!! That's exactly what I did (only I had to buy my two air cleaners poke ). I think it looks better than trying to get the F body unit to fit around the AC, plus you get the satisfaction of building it yourself.

I sold my last dual snorkel for $100.

I surely wouldn't pay that much for one!

why would anyone spend more than about $5 for something that is easily made out of parts that can be had at any junkyard for almost nothing?
maybe i need to go get every single snorkel air cleaner that i can find and start whipping up dual snorkels with my trusty pop rivet gun and selling them on ebay...

Did anyone see any gains from installing a dual snorkel?

Sorry for the double post, but it is kind of shocking to see how different things were for G bodies a decade ago. Factory dual snorkels have become ultra rare and can cost up to $400 or more now. Carbed cars and trucks are rare in the junkyards now, and they are almost always missing their aircleaners. Likely the result of Ebay scalpers and carb aircleaners being easy to remove for resale, which even makes building your own dual snorkel aircleaner difficult.

If you go to the for sale section and look at my 87, You'll see the dual snorkel I built for mine. I used 2 L69 units and welded it up.

Here's the dual snorkel that everyone was adapting to the Monte back in the day, late 3rd Gen Camaro with the L69. I bought two of them back then, one for 15 and one for 20 bucks. I gave the lesser quality one to a friend for his SS and have had the other on the 86 for 15 years. Yinks, 300 dollars now.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/83-84-85-86-Chevrolet-Camaro-5-0-Liter-H-O-HO-Air-Cleaner-L69-Dual-Snorkel/153758796864?hash=item23ccbd0c40:g:u-UAAOSwElpd8YcN

Here's some looking at an install on the Camaro.

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/carburetors/728154-l69-dual-snorkel-ducts.html

Besides the cool looking factor of a dual snorkel with fresh air ducting if done right there are advantages. Getting cold fresh air to a up to operating temp hp engine at WOT is a good thing, should make more hp. Getting a ram air effect is another advantage if you can accomplish that. The 69 Camaro cowl hood was an example of that trial, positive pressure at high speed, ?. Difficult to get a ram effect on a Monte.
Disadvantage of all that cold air with a carb, while not using the Thermac system, is possible lousy cold engine performance.

Several mods to that air cleaner to make it fit the Monte. Hot air off the exhaust manifold for the Thermac system was on the left side on Camaro, it's right side for Monte. The housing was indexed wrong for a Monte, it needs to be rotated to orientate the snorkels if you ran factory air. The Camaro used a shorter filter element, different lid. The tall Monte filter and lid is used with that Camaro base. The thermostat for the Thermac hot air system would hit the linkage on the carb for the secondary on the right side so you needed to raise, shim the housing up for clearance. I use a 3/16" stack of gaskets between the carb and housing. The snorkel size is unique and a 4" hose doesn't fit around the snorkel. GM had one off hoses to fit those snorkels. Luckily both those hoses I bought way back then along with both.plastic "scoops" that mounted to the top of the rad support. I trashed both the scoops trying to make them work on the SS. Trying to get the hood closed with those scoops mounted on top of the rad support required smashing them down to nothing. What's the point of having scoops so restrictive. Now have the hoses passing through the rad support and two 4" inlets into the front air box sides.

Lots of guys do the cowl hood and related air cleaner to use the air coming from the base of the windshield. Here's Paul's install.
http://montecarloss.com//GoodmarkAirCleaner.html

The Goodmark cowl hoods are very restrictive on their hole size to feed the filter. There are like 97 .200" holes if i remember correctly. When you do the math it's like 3 square inches of possible air flow. The two 4" hoses that could supply a dual snorkel cold air package measure 25 inches. Even the stock L69 Monte cold air setup supplied about 6 inches. I have the Goodmark hood and only use it to "vent" the under hood air.

Numerous other options for dual snorkel and, or, cold air. Just decide what your goal is. Back when I had my 69 C10 with a hopped up 350 made a dual snorkel for that engine, no ducting. The stock snorkel was to small, junkyard trip, two new snorkels, a little bit of weld and done.
