I got this cheap and its practically brand new.it came from a 88 1500 pickup.can I get this to work in my 84 monte?
it didn't use a self tightening serpentine belt so im thinking I can get it to work.it has a 4 prong plug in it but I got the plug too and its only got one wire coming out of it.alternator

That's your field wire.Iirc you hook it up to your white wire. Is it a CS 130 or CS 144 ?

im not sure if I can get it to work.it looks just like this one and the holes are not clocked 180 from each other.

Those D pattern alts fit on the brackets for mid 90's+ engines. I just made that mistake and it did not fit. The ebay link in your first post should fit. if it's a CS you need that resistor pigtail to make it charge the battery

I made a bracket to make the holes 180 deg from each other.i think I can get it mounted in the car ok now.how do I tell if its a cs ?
it has a plug with 4 posts coming out of the alternator.it also has a plug which only has one wire going out to the car.it doesn't appear to have any wires cut on the plug.
my car has a gage in the cluster.what plug do I need to buy to get this to work properly in my car?
I don't think its a cs style because the case is small and the cs writeups ive seen have a big case that barely fits in the bracket.

If your alternator is just like the one in the pic it's a cs 130 they came in 88-94 trucks among other gm cars of that time.
You should just have to connect he white wire coming from your harness to the brown side off the plug and it should work.

thanks for the reply...….the plug I have that came from the truck has lust one wire and its brown and marked L.
I ordered a plug from napa EC82. from what ive read it has the resistor and has 2 wires .

The 2wire plug is a brown wire (field) and a red ( sensing) wire. But pretty sure it would work with the one wire p!ug.

Yeah the pig tail you linked is a quick and easy way to adapt this alternator. You will have no problems with it.

we put it in last nite.i had to use the fan and pulley from the stock one.at first it was charging like mad and the lites and everything seemed great with the ac on full blast to put a load on it but the choke was also on and it was idling high.once it warmed up and I got the choke to drop off it was idling at about 900 with my foot on the brake.the amp gage was almost in the red and the lites dimmed a bit as they did before.i only needed to increase the rpm about 150 rpm for the gage to go way up into charge again and for the headlites to get real brite.does this seem right?

No it should charge right at idle. I think these cars have a light in the wire for resistance already. Try it with out your dieode and see if it makes a difference?
