boston, ma.
Hello.
My SS has been sitting way to long,
it has 80k on it,
I plan on servicing the rear end
What grade gear end "gear oil"
should I be using.
It is a G80 so it has a posi.

Do I use a gear oil that has listed having a posi additive , or should I still use the stand alone posi additive and if so, what one.

Also, syn or from the ground?
will I need to replace the axle seals before running syn gear oil if that is a better option.

Have a great day
Thanks
Mark

In my experience, using just the oil that claims to be for limited slip makes the rear chatter. Adding the GM additive made the chatter stop. I bought the additive from the Chevrolet dealer.

What T5montecarlo said, put the additive in first and use a gasket on the cover, not silicone!

I like to pre mix the additive into the oil before putting it in the rear.
