I am still playing with a 305 too. It is really not that hard to bump their power up. Not very fond of DBW, I can feel the delay in every DBW car I have driven.

I couldn't stand the throttle delay or the way the transmission shifted on my 2009 G8 GT. Literally ordered HP Tuners within a few minutes of getting back home with the car from the dealership. It took me a couple weeks worth of tweaking on all the tables since there wasn't as much info available in 2009 as it is now, but I got it feeling pretty close to cable driven (for the most part).

The factory throttle delay was bad enough but it was the way the transmission shifted that drove me crazy - like someone granny shifting a manual transmission,,, rocking me back and forth in the seat. Like Robert said, GM put a lot of buffer in their tunes, especially in the trucks and passenger cars. Those that were programmed for 87 octane fuel, like my G8 GT with the extremely lazy timing tables from the factory just compounds the issue.

Anyway, doesn't sound like the Edelbrock headers will bolt up to the stock y-pipe, but if so I'm pretty sure I hung on to a few from all the headers swaps from back in the day.

Original owner of 1985 SS black hardtop w/gray interior. Frame-on restoration - 406 sleeper w/ heavily ported FIRST TPI. However the 1.875" headers, 3.5" duals, TH400, Ford 9", notched frame, and 10-point cage w/swing-out bars might tip you off it's not a lil' ole 305 TPI. Other mods: 2" drop, 18" wheels, f/r disk brakes, and custom stereo system.

I understand the 1/19 CA noise enforcement is the same old law, but will be more than a slap on the hand, it will effect your wallet now, up to a grand. And possibly you may end up in a Referee Station to get approval for the new exhaust changes made, which may raises flags on what is under the hood. That was what I read into the pt.com post, some where concerned that if you need to go to the referee station you may need to also pass a sniffer test. Probably to early to know what the outcome will be for older cars with newer engines in a noisy car.

Not yet. The headers I have are for the LG4 but they’re the same as the L69 (same pipe/collector diameter) the crossover is the difference. I might make that work until I can make a better flowing piece.

LG4 or L69, the Edel TES headers are both the same.

As L69's used the bell month converter, the section of the Y pipe is of course different.

Presently running TES/bell month Y pipe on the daughter's MC/SS and my '79 Malibu. Future plans are for a 383 in the Malibu and may go with full length headers, but of course the trans X over will have the changed.

Quick question would it be more cost effective to just run dual exhaust pipes from the TES headers instead of fabing a new Y pipe? Am I missing something? Would there be any CA emissions concerns with true dual exhaust?

Dual exhaust is only legal if it was a factory option for the car model, which it was not for G bodies. To be emission legal, you must run a Y pipe into a single stock converter.

SBC powered 1987 Regal with TES headers, ZZ4 intake, ZZ4 PROM chip, mini starter, THM2004R, 2500 stall converter, 2040 cam, CCC system, and 3.73 posi rear.
