Out with the old, in with the new. Moved from Southern California to just east of Austin, TX. Just put Texas Classic Auto plates on the SS.

Nice!

I like simple, low digit plates.

Is there any significance to "classic auto" Texas plates?
I have NV "classic vehicle" plates on mine, 5000 mile annual mileage, 20 years or older and no smog checks. Why are you parked on dirt?

Well, I agree completely.. not optimum to be parking on dirt. We just moved here at the end of January. The garage is in disarray and not able to accept the SS at the moment. So it's temporarily parked in our barn. I'm hoping to rectify that this weekend. Eventually the shop will be built with plenty of space and a lift to have fun.

Texas 'Classic Auto' plates do not cost anything, and require the vehicle to be at least 25 years old. There are no mileage or usage restrictions. The other nice option for these plates is that to customize them (as I did), it only costs $40/year, whereas normal Texas plates cost upwards of $200/year unless you play multiple years in advance. I think the best rate in this class is $100/year for a 5 year payment. So it's a nice perk they give the Classic plates. According to the Texas DMV site, there are 24,640 Classic Auto plates currently issued in Texas.

Texas also has an 'Antique Auto' plate which costs $50/year but has restrictions: "Motor vehicle that are at least 25 years old AND a collector's item. The motor vehicle must be used exclusively for exhibitions, club activities, parades or other functions of public interest. Motor vehicles displaying Antique plates may not be used for regular transportation or advertising. The motor vehicle may be driven to and from a location for routine maintenance." There are 105,910 Antique Auto plates issued in Texas.

Well, I learned something new... I thought there was restrictions on the Classic plates, so I never bothered with them. I might give that a shot next time around.
