Hi guys...I seem to have an intermittent problem.....a gas/fuel leak.
It starts fines and runs fine...but I can smell gas in the engine while it is stopped. The other day, after it ran in my driveway idle for a while, I noticed a small leak on my driveway. I know it's somewhere in the engine as the drops on the driveway were under the engine.
I had a similar problem two years ago, until I changed the fuel filter.
I notice the gas smell most when it's parked after driving in my garage.

Ideas?

Check your fuel pump. There is a weep hole on the side of it that can leak gas when the pump is worn.

How difficult is it to replace the fuel pump on our cars?

I've never done it on a MC (have changed many on other cars), but looking at the pump it looks pretty easy if you do it from underneath.

In the front of the block there is a 3/8 short bolt on the right side. Remove the pump and the push rod will fall down but not out of the engine. Rotate the engine by hand and with your finger on the end of the rod feel it move all the way up. In the hole you took the small bolt out of install a longer one to pinch the push rod from falling down. Now you can install your new fuel pump with ease. Take out the long bolt and reinstall the short one.
If your good, rotate the engine so the rod is all the way up. After that clean the rod with brake clean and use chassis grease on it. Push the rod up and install your fuel pump. The heavy grease will hold the rod for a short time.
