Looking for a 21-2200 range stall (per Comp Cams recommendation) lockup 27 spline for cruisin behind a moderate SB. Finding rebuilders are using lo-po V6 cores due to a shortage of high performance cores. Some say this doesn't matter? In the aftermarket B&M for instance doesn't offer them, others like TCI have some bad reviews. I don't think I need a $500+ TC? Recommendations would be appreciated.

I plan on getting the fti street brawler https://ftiperformance.com/Street-Brawler-Series-Torque-Converters-200R4-700R4-4L60-SB2400LT.htm for $250 idk how you can beat it, i thought about using a stock 10" grand national converter GM58HD, thats supose to be 2000 rpm and can be had from auto parts stores for $150-160 with core exchange but wouldnt come close to the quality of an fti.

Is that Street Brawler a lockup unit? I don't see it specifically confirmed on the specs. The liftetime warranty for nearly as much as the converter price is a bit worry some. If it comes apart and ruins the trans, will the warranty cover the trans damage?

yes its lockup, not sure on covering the trans, idk if most converter companies would do that with the all the variables surrounding everything from engine, trans, drivetrain, who installed it, ect... FTI is great and I installed a higher end billet one in a friends 1970 chevelle with a 489 and a 1997 4l80e behind it and the free standard warranty covers 1 rebuild in its lifetime, and 1 restall if you werent happy with it. But that was a $900 converter so idk if the warranty is the same as a $250 converter. I would trust it way more than a new reman grand national converter from advance auto or autozone that is only $100 less. For closer to the $300 range ACC has the boss hog night stalker line and have heard good things but have no experience with them myself.

Transmission specialties makes a few converters for the 200-4r. We are running a nonlockup unit of their's it's taken a beating with no issues under $300. shipped if I remember.
Also the early 700-R4's were the same 27 spline and sometimes a company will list converters for them and not the 200-4r even though they are the same.
