After religiously searching and looking for the right project car. On August 17th, 2015 I purchased a 1988 Monte Carlo SS for $1500 from New York. I found a hauler in the same town and had the car shipped to Virginia on October 21st, 2015.

PROJECT MVP

The beginning.

Before the cars arrival I researched places where I could have it in storage. I was lucky to find a self storage facility in my area that only charged $93 a month for outdoor parking in a very secure location. The staff were very helpful during this time. They did not hassle me about the car not being in running condition or about insurance. All that I needed was a drivers license and a bill statement showing my current residence. I could come and go as many times as I wanted and work on it.

Thank you ls1_monte wave

Its not in mint condition especially being a New York car. But will be fully restored and remain original. Lets just say I couldn't pass this one up. cool
Doing research on the best route to go as far as engine type, chassis, suspension etc.

I will be adding a new floor and removing all of the rust. My main focus is to make this a nice cruiser for the time being.

I would surly pull the seats and carpet to get a good look at the floors just so there arent any surprises. Nice crack free dash.

Wow that's really interesting, we live in very small world. Hows the '86 looking?

It needs alot but I had an 84 with no title that I parted out, some of those parts will end up on the 86. but I got the 86 for $350 with a title but no drivetrain. my plans are to freshen up what I pulled out of the 84 and put it in the 86 just to cruze around in. my kids are super excited to help me with this. I will eventually do a frame off to this, prob start on it in the spring.

Oh ok that makes it easier. I think its a very good plan. Be sure to document the process which will be remembered for a long time. Sounds like a great project!!

I posted earlier in your thread but I ended up selling the 86 I picked up a few years ago to someone that wanted to put an LS in it. 3 weeks ago I picked up an all original 1986 SS with only 43k on the clock for a steal.

Current state of the project. Im not surprised with the condition.
Found a old mouse house inside the center console. Definitely chewed the back seats from inside the trunk and used material to create a lil home. This is definitely from the previous owner.

Hopefully that back seat pan doesnt have holes . Its a integral part of the body. There is a body mount brace and mounts there. Right in front of the rear foot wells where the carpet ends.Keep plugging away like the combo
