A universal fit will bolt in, are you sure it's a 200 series trans??

I would avoid the weak TH200, you are better off using a TH350.
Why not have your TH200R4 rebuilt?
Here is a chart of what fits what.

Had a TH200 in a new 1978 Oldsmobile Firenza GT with a Chevy 305 engine. Had to sign a waiver because it had a Chevy engine in an Oldsmobile, yes, the good old days, NOT!! Drove it of the show room floor and after 34,000 the transmission was shot. Biggest piece of junk I have ever owned. Do yourself a favor and stay away from that mess!! They were built to handle 4 cylinder cars and didn't hold up to them either!!

It sounds like you had an Oldsmobile Starfire, the Firenza was a FWD J-car pos.
The Starfire was based on the Chevy Vega, the Chevy version was called the Monza. I heard the 305 engine had to be raised to remove the #8 spark plug in those cars.

The TH350 is the exact same size and length as the TH200R4, it bolts right in. You loose overdive and some fuel mileage with the TH350.

Uh... you may want to research that. I don't think that is correct... http://chevellestuff.net/tech/automatic_trans_dimensions.htm

My advice is to build th200-4r. Best 4 speed auto GM made next to the 4l80E.

Are you saying a TH 350 won't bolt right in? And I agree, the TH 2004R is the best option fr the OP.

Robert, check the silver car at the bottom of the list of pictures, that's the car I had, color and all. It was a Vega dressed up. You're right, the motor had to be lifted up on one side to get to the one plug. It ran good, but they came with a TH200 or TH350. They told me which transmission you got was based on what was available that day, I got screwed, LOL !! They had problems with control arms breaking at the frame due to the extra weight.

Ok, looks like the Firenza was a sporty appearance package on the Starfire. Confusion occurred because Olds named their J-car the Firenza. I almost bought a new Vega but I chose the Pinto instead. Lot's of bad cars in those days.
