I began my swap from the 200 R4 to a T5 NWC. The engine is a SS3-350

It took me two years to build the garage and 6 more months to source the parts...I am in no rush
The first day:
- I drained/spilled the fluid all over the place! (should have drilled a damn hole in the pan!)
- Dropped the driveshaft
- Removed torque converter bolts and other hardware

Last night I was able to remove the 4 side bolts to the tranny but for the life of me I can't access the top two!
I tried dropping the transmission but the cross member is fighting back, I left the bolts soaking in penetrating fluid.
Other than that, do you have any ideas? I looked from the top but didn't see anything.

Surely there's an easier way.

You'll need to drop the rear of the transmission, you can reach the bolts with a swivel and extension.

You could also remove the trans and engine as one unit.
But above advice is correct, an extension and a universal joint socket will reach the bolts. You need to lift the trans a bit with a floor jack to remove the crossmember. removing the distributor will give you more access to the bolts from the top. You may not be able to see the bolts but you can see them with a mirror or by feel. A gear wrench is another tool to use to remove the bolts from the top.

3' long extension with a swivel socket at the end is the trick...

Thanks guys, I just ordered a wobble socket set. I have a universal joint which is good but not as much clearance as a wobble socket. I can see these things as only used once in a while but a god-send when used!

I already have the 3' extension....very handy as well.

The key is....you confirmed I must drop the back half of the transmission via lowering the cross member.

If you pull the distributor, I was able to get mine with a stubby wrench from the top.

Also take it easy on that NWC T-5 they don't like a lot of torque...

I had a bit of a struggle removing the cross member due to rusty bolts and hard to reach nuts...but I got it done...transmission is OUT.
Ready to install the manual, I will revive the manual conversion thread, I need bolt sizes.
