The 1978 - 1988 (3rd / 4th Gen) Monte Carlo has made Hagerty's Top 25 Collector Car List! It tied for 17th place with 6th other cars with a Hagerty Vehicle Rating of 90.
Quote
The Hagerty Vehicle Rating tracks a vehicle’s performance relative to the rest of the market, based on a 0–100 scale. A 50-point rating indicates that a vehicle is keeping pace with the market overall. Ratings above 50 indicate above-average appreciation, while ratings below 50 indicate vehicles that are lagging.

Very cool!

I did find a couple cars on that list puzzling, Lincoln Town Car?, but it does seem our cars and g-bodies in general are slowly but surely trending up. The older trucks are no surprise at becoming very popular.

The Lincoln Mark VIII has special meaning to me. I chased one after the driver committed bank robbery. He jumped on the freeway and I could not catch it, they are very fast cars.
It did not help I was riding a Harley Davidson Road King that topped out at 110.
Detectives caught the guy later.

They also state power as 150bhp, despite the heading saying Monte Carlo SS.

Oh, and +5% value adjustment for T Tops? Maybe for excellent condition cars with zero rust. For all other Montes I would suggest T Tops are worth less, simply because of the expense (and hassle) of finding good t top parts and seals, and not least because of the higher chances of rust being an issue. I know that when I was looking for my Monte, I didn't want T Tops. Living in Florida, dodgy seals would mean leaks in the summer rain season (and rust being a worry from water ingress), and having big roof panels of glass in the sunshine State would mean my head would fry every time the sun came out. They might have uses in other parts of the country, but they're a liability in Florida!

I'm currently trying to insure my car for more than their #1 value, but mine isn't stock.

I recently upped the value of mine to $15,000 with Hagerty. They wanted a lot of photos to support that value. Yup, my premium went way up. Some of the higher premium has to do with the performance increase.

I have seen many gearhead sites under reporting stock MCSS power at 150 or 160 HP. Heck, some of the car mags back in the day tested them making more like 190 to 200 HP. The same L69 that was rated 180 in MCs was rated 190 HP in F bodies by GM.

Montes are slowing getting up there. The 73-91 trucks however which i’m heavily involved in these days have taken the #1 spot finally! It’ll be #1 for quite awhile too imo.

They refer to all 78-88 MCs as "third generation". Along with all the other misinformation in the article, it doesn't really inspire me to put much stock in their opinions.
