Thanks!
I hear that little squeak too. It was worse when the alternator was crooked and I think it still was in that video. Belts are old and probably on there too tight to prevent slipping. No clue when they've been changed, but no signs of cracking. They are on the list.

This year's budget is running on fumes after that wheel purchase.

I would like to replace the floor pans and I'm starting to think it would be the way to go. Going to attempt the scrape and patch this year. If it comes back to haunt me, they will be part of a future budget. If I do it I'm going full floor replacement. My inner rockers are rough. When I reach up there i feel peeling paint. I'm potentially getting a free full sized lift in the next month so I've stalled my cleanup of the underside until then. That will be much easier if I'm on my feet and not my back. Still going to patch it now.

No matter what I do, I don't intend to drive the car in the rain and it is always in a garage. That should buy me a bit of time no matter how I clean it up.

Fan system cost me about $45. $25 for fans at the u-pull and $20 for the wiring kit

Pro Tip: welding can start a fire

Almost lost the monte today. Was welding in the plate over the hole and didn't notice the smoke through the welding mask. I set the insulation on the firewall on fire.

A scary 5 minutes of stamping it out with welding gloves while smoke poured out of the dash.

Now I'm afraid to do the passenger side due to fuel lines.

I hammered the floor as flat as possible by jacking my sledgehammer up to the floor and then hammering it flat with my regular hammer.
I ground down all the edges and stripped off the paint.
Cut the patch to match and drilled several holes around the edge to plug weld it.
Cut a few tabs to bend down into the areas that didn't flatten.
[Linked Image]
[Linked Image]
Patch and welds work pretty good. Forgot to take a pic of it with epoxy paint. much cleaner with paint.
Ran out of epoxy paint so I have to wait to hit it with some sealant goop.

I know what floor worms means now. I'm spotting little holes here and there like i had worms eating the metal.

I took the kids out in her tonight. My son was screaming "I don't want to die!" while I never took it over 45.
Highest praise I've ever had for my car =)

I finally figured out how the gauge cluster comes apart. I got the speedo out and Swapped in 10 LED lights. They were the $10 ten pack from amazon linked on some thread here about LED's. I'm happy with the results. It's a nice pale white illumination of the gauge cluster. It's kind of ghostly.

Got the voltage meter working again. Got the tach to show signs of life but it is way off. I don't think i'm shifting at 8k

I used about half a can of contact cleaner on the whole deal and scraped the contacts on the stubborn lights.

This is one of those, have to do it 4 times to get it right kind of jobs. Every time i put it back together i realized i goofed something up. forgot the turn signal green piece, take it apart again. forgot to test the turn signals, take it apart again. Tach stops reading, take it apart again.

Somehow I managed to only break 1 clip and a light socket this time. I'll have to do without the seatbelt warning. The whole assembly, every part of it is very brittle.

Temp and oil pressure sensors are still dead. I'm going to have to test those connections with a meter.

I've been going back and forth on how I want to make this car look and I think I'm going with the 80's.
Was a debate between that and mad max style(I have the rust for it)
[Linked Image]
Swapped out the white lights for purple/pink

Redid my tach by following the guide on here. I also removed the contacts from the tach and gave the board and the contacts a little sandpaper.
Tach is working great now.
Only need to fix or replace the temp and oil sensors now.

Looks like i shift at around 1800 RPM at light throttle, 3000 RPM's at 50% throttle. Car idles at 1000 on cold start. Slap pedal and it drops to 600. After a couple minutes car idles at 520 in drive at a stop.

thats why i prefer my fans on a switch. No drain on the battery except when *I* want it. can make the car hard to start if its already hot. and you dont really need them when you're at speed.

Time for a new ceiling. Tired of it looking like the car is haunted

Scrapped the foam off by attaching my wire wheel to my vice grips. It took about an hour to fully scrape it.
Pretty sure this is the second time this has been done to this car. Shell had some cracks held together with tape

Nice work, the headliner looks great! I'm sitting here trying to figure out my next move and you just made up my mind. How hard was it to remove the trim around the headliner?

Thanks!

The pillars come out easy, then the front trim should slide out of place. Mine could be broken and you may need to pop yours
Then I undid the visors.
The trim above the door pops out. You just have to kind of twist it the right way and it pops. I'd research a good way.

Remove passenger seat.

Under the trim at the door is 3 clips, unscrew them.

Next remove the back window trim, 2 screws.

Then the 2 hanger hooks.

Then pop the dome light cover, use a blade to get under the 2 "snapper" things on the posts. Not sure what they are really called. They don't unscrew, they pop on and off.

Cut the wire and tape it.

Remove Body by fisher rails along door.

Remove the trim on the back edge of the door jamb.

I think the ceiling is free at this point except for the big plastic pieces in the back seat.

I got in the back seat and inched my shell out one inch at a time. You can slide it past the rear trim and up onto the dash. Shimmy it side to side.

now you slip out the passenger side and swing the shell out.

Honestly, the hardest part was getting the visors back in. The screw pattern is a PITA to guess right through the fabric. Remove the visor from the mount. Makes it so much easier. Take a photo of the angle they mount at(i didnt).

I did not wrap my fabric around the shell like others show to do. I cut it along the edge. the trim gives great overlap. It would not shimmy back into place otherwise.

You will need exactly 1 large can from joanne fabric. I used a little bit of it for something a few weeks ago and came up a little light on the second surface. Can't go wrong with 2 cans.

don't let them fold your fabric at the store. Roll it back up. I had wrinkles

Monte got real wet in the rain yesterday for the first time.

Now today the electric fans aren't kicking on at the right temp.

Exhaust sounds like something is opened up.

Fuel line is leaking at the fuel filter.

ignition cylinder isn't releasing the key or the shifter unless i position it just right

All this happens in one day =[

And my van is grounded. Leaf spring shackle broke and part doesn't come in until monday

Not a good week.

Chased down my electrical gremlins yesterday. I cleaned up the connection for the main ground cable last week. It was on painted metal. Patched an exposed wire that was grounding on the trunk hinge. Took my relay trigger wire off of the distributer and hooked that to the electric choke. Really wish I heeded that advice sooner. Just kind of assumed it only needed the tiniest bit of current to trip that relay. Seems like it was sending a lot to it.

I was able to start the car without using the gas pedal for the first time. I didn't really gain any performance but it just feels so much smoother. Best way to describe it is the car used to rumble and now it purrs when I press that pedal

Nice score . The key issue is slack in the shifter lincage .the coloumn drum part that turns has to be shifted by hand with the shifter when they wear out

It's been a long winter of having my wife's project car ahead of mine. It had been on jack stands in the driveway since christmas. It's a 2000 Infiniti I30 with holes in the fenders, chewed up rotors, bad Y pipe, and a rotten radiator support.
I cut out all the rusty parts, bondoed the fenders, welded in plates on the radiator support, replaced the Ypipe and redid the brakes all around. Now I have the fun job of recalibrating the computer on a car that isn't registered, inspected or insured.

So now with that out of the way i can get back to real car work and it looks like spring is still a month away here in PA.

The monte suffered a meltdown in early march. I had 1 beautiful day so I took her to work and the fan relay melted.
I rigged it up to run for the ride home.
I ended up redoing my accessory wiring job. I have 1 main feed off the battery to a power block. From the power block I have 30 amp fusible links going to the relays. Instead of 2 fans through a 40 amp relay i now have each fan running through a 60 amp realy.
I even ditched the electrical tape and used the crimp splicers like I'm supposed to

Got the CS alternator in. Ran it in idle with the stereo up, heater, flashers, headlights and cooling fans on and no problems. Volt meter dips to about 12 with all that on. No belt squeal.

Got my steering kit in. Waiting on the upper control arms. I need to order a ball joint press and I can get the next job done.

Body bushings are in the mail.

Got the console washed up today. Going to try and fix the hinge for the lid.

If you are talking about a ball joint press for the lower ball joint see if one of the locals, Autozone, Advance, sells Moog and also has a press to borrow. A good ball joint press is expensive and needs to work on the G lower ball joint. If you can get Moog joints locally and they have the press you are ahead of the game.

Just about everyone has had the console lid break. Original lid replacements has been bought up years ago, I think Mike sells a good replacement aftermarket now.
