Ran across a very cheap MC locally. It has a 305 thats knocking badly.

Anybody have or know of any cheap running 305's?

They show up here every once in a while, people are usually asking $100 or 'just get it outta my garage.' I'd grab that car now and worry about an engine later smile

I might have figured out my solution. The guy selling it was very nice and actually told me about 2 salvage yards in the sticks 45 minutes from me I didnt know. I called one they had a 86ss that the lady said didnt have much left (I still want to check out).

The other place is closing soon and has a early 80's sport coupe and an 87 LS he described as being in great shape with good running motor and tranny complete car bill of sale for 500 since theyre closing and itll get crushed.

Im hoping it has the buckets not the cushiony interior since I could use or stockpile that for my 2 ss i already own.

If this doesnt pan out my hope was for a "get this 305 out of my garage for little to nothing" deal as i might as well get a 350 if its pricey.

I was nearly giving away a L69 this fall, car didn't run but turned over just fine. Asked $40 for it (and willing to do $30 after way too much time negotiating) I was still low balled from someone wanting it as a coffee table project. Ended up using the crank/flexplate/balancer for an end table project of my own and scrapping the block/heads.

Sold a running LG4 earlier in summer for $50 to a co-worker.

The I-want-it-out-of-my-garage deals for a 305 are out there or will pop up I'd think.

Tell them they are morons if they crush an LS in just about any condition. They're getting to be more rare than the SS and almost as valuable, because noone thought they were worth saving.

If you decide you don't want either of the complete cars, or don't want to mess with them, I would be interested. Even throw in a finders fee for you, or maybe trade a 305 I have here at the shop, if you were interested in that.

I'd offer similar if I was down that neck of the woods. Good condition Monte LS are worth at least 2k up here.

The cars from the salvage yard hes selling bill of sale so I assume you cant get a title or it would require work. Im probably going to end up with an extra car out of this. I might be open to selling. Ill keep you posted. Also if I dont buy the LS with the bad motor Ill relay.

I was thinking I might get the other one from that yard the 81-83 sc since theyre getting crushed feb and its probably at minimum a decent southern body and frame that somebody else could use. Since he said 500 for the better of the two Im assuming its similarly priced. Only barrier being I dont have a trailor.

I am going to check the yards I mentioned and several others this weekend. Ill report back on my findings.

Also I saw a 86 LS for 2,000 in a yard a few months ago if anybody wants the guys info. He had the tranny rebuilt recently and he said it was driveable but needed work but otherwise looked pretty good. I have pics.

In CT, you don't need (and they don't issue) titles for cars that old. Please do report back on the $500 LS, bonus points for pictures smile

That's ok on the titles, I would just be interested for the parts, just to keep them from getting crushed and destroyed. I also circle track race so i can part them out and use the rest for that, if nothing else. I'd rather see them on the track, than crushed up into a beer can. laugh

If I was able to get one of the cars, and you need the other one hauled, I would be willing to help you out with my truck/trailer. I'm sure we can work something out, if it comes down to that.

Im planning to go Monday. It will be a busy day especially if I find a lot.

Since I need a trailor and 305 depending on what I find we can talk after. The yard possibly will haul for me but the project I probably need towed.

Its unlikely Ill want both cars in lined to get crushed, maybe neither.

I went down there finally.

The 88 LS was in ok shape it was complete other then missing a dteering wheel. Paint was surface rusted. Interior average condition. Seats decent dash has several cracks.

early 80s monte missing doors had grill.

Saw a 78 malibu Im thinking of buying to sell. Thinking thats probably the most valuable thing I saw. Also saw some irocs, several 60s stangs and camaros, 69-72 cutlass or 442.

Dang, I had 2 305s that I didn't know what to do with a few months ago. 1 from a 86 C10 and another H/O 305 from an 86SS. Both ran good and had good oil pressure.. No matter what I did I could not offload 'em. I eventually listed them for free on craigslist and the scrappers didn't even want them. So I wound up scrapping them myself. The other crappy part is I make frequent trips to Norfolk.

Dangit my daughter lives in Norfolk.

I cant find one for less then 300 without traveling which I refuse to pay. I might then up parting a car to get one free but in terms of just getting a free 305 i cant find one.

I also have had too many things on my plate recently.
