I'm running the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 in 245/45-17 in the front and 255/45-17 in the back. They are summer tires. They really stick to the pavement like glue. But because they are summer tires, I have to put my Monte in winter sleep when the temp gets to about 40 degrees. I have driven on these tires for several years now and I do push them hard from time to time. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a summer performance tire.

Lots of choices with 17s, just depends on what you want the tire to do, Summer only to studded snows, and how much you want to spend.
I'm liking the BFG Comp 2 tires on the 86, an "Ultra High Perf Summer" tire that seems to wear good, good traction and is also good in those very few times I drive the car in the wet. Ran an autox in the rain recently and was surprised how well they did.

Does anyone know of a RWL 17" tire?

Bridgestone Potenza RE71R 245/45/17 all the way round. The Hankook Ventus V12 is also a good less aggressive choice.

I'm a 255/45 all the way around guy on an 8 inch wheel.

But your question was brand....right now I prefer Nitto 555 tires.

200kSS, is your car lowered with that tire size and any rubbing? I have the 17'' N90 ( 8'' wide x 4'' backspacing) with 245/45 and need new rubber and would like to get as wide as I can .BTW, I have been studying ALOT of tires and am leaning toward at the Dunlop DIREZZA ZII for price and performance.( 200 tread wear)

Yes, the car is lower than factory height. B-body spindle swap up front and I honestly don't recall which springs are in the car as it's been together for 15 years now.

I also run the 17" N90 wheels (4.25 BS) and have no rubbing issues at all in the back, the front may rub slightly at full lock but I don't recall the last time I felt any rubbing even when parking.

In the past I've run a 275/40/17 on 4th gen Camaro SS wheels. Those did rub the front inner fender at full lock.

Following for others insight, I will be purchasing a new set of 17"s this spring sometime, 255/45/17 on a 17x8. Current 245/45/17 BFG Comp T/A's(I think?) are from 2002, tread is ok but think they've lived a long enough life that a combination of safety/stickiness at that age is my concern. And if all goes as planned might even be buying another set in the same size for later in the year as a wheel change/swap is on the horizon.

I just noticed Discount Tire Direct has some new rebates going on through 2/19, depending on which tire but for example the BFG g-force Comp 2's will get you a $75 gift card rebate with a full set. I was personally waiting for one of these deals this spring, they pop up from time to time but it's an incentive to buy.

I found 340 AA for the Firestone Firehawks. I'm contemplating them myself, good reviews and nice price point too.

Resident autocross expert Lance started out with Nitto 555's but I'm sure he would recommend a better/stickier tire for full autocross performance. My brief experience autocrossing with them just reinforced how I need suspension and driver mods before worrying about high end tires. Also I'm more of a drag racer so I run Drag Radials on the rear of one car all summer.

I place the Nitto as a good all around tire. Yes you can autocross, have decent traction on dry surfaces and they work in the rain.
