good video , you can see that the led is backwards the marker is brighter than the turn , as you pointed out your self with the turn/flasher only the bottom row of lights light up on the LED but the marker lights up all the lights on the LED , it should be the other way around , if you look closely you can see the turn signal flashing throw the brightness of the marker , it jest that the marker is too bright for the weaker lights to over come the brightness of the others , I know the Bulb are made to only go in one way ( off set pins ) but try and put the bulb in backwards and I bet they work right LOL .....

I'm assuming these bulbs currently in the Monte will not work in any other applications unless installed "backwards". Is that your consensus?

Thanks for your help. It's not over yet though. Those bulbs that are in the video are the 4th pair that did not work correctly. The 1st pair (off of ebay) I destroyed against the block wall in the garage. The 2nd and 3rd pair were purchased from AutoZone and Advanced Auto and I returned those. The pair in the video are Pilot Automotive brand from Walmart. Unfortunately, my wife threw the receipt away so they won't let me return them (I tried). I called Pilot today and hopefully have a resolution worked out with them.
On a semi-related note. I bought white 1157 LEDs off of ebay for the camper and Ford and they had the same problem. Last night I put the bulbs in backwards on the camper taillights and then they worked correctly too! I'll have to see if they will work on the Ford if they are installed backwards.

They are sending me new lights. I'm not holding my breath that these will work correctly either.

Hi Bob!

Resurrecting this one from some months back in hopes that it didn't result in more LED bulbs destroyed against a wall.. mad

Just joking of course as I have been there with you regarding your frustration on other occasions..

On the serious side I would like to know as I am going to go down the same path and would like to offer my assistance if you still need help.

Reading through this thread it appears that the front light you currently have is polarized.

There is an application specific 2057A LED from Sylvania that I see Autozone offers that may indeed be non-polarized to work or simply polarized correctly for our application.

http://www.autozone.com/electrical-and-l...5?checkfit=true

But wondering if this is what you had already tried? Or did you just Use the Autozone Generic 1157?

If you have not tried, I will take the hit to order this and report back.

Please let me know.

Thanks and Regards,

Matt

Answered my own question..

1. The bulb is too dim and does not have a 360 lighting arrangement.

2. When the lights are on, the side marker does not illuminate.

The 2nd issue I believe is how power is directed once the lights are turned on. As such I believe the side marker needs to be non-polarized.

Will do some more testing and report back but does anyone have the wiring schematic for the lights and signal control?

Regards,

Matt

Sorry, have been off the site for awhile dealing with real life drama. Sadly, the company never sent me new bulbs. Multiple calls have been non-productive as well. I just put regular new bulbs in it and haven't given it anymore thought until I get some more important issues resolved.

Has anyone tried either of the two bulbs: Philips 1157 P21/5W Red X-tremeVision LED Exterior
https://www.amazon.com/Philips-1157-X-tremeVision-Exterior-light/dp/B00HWS7XGW

or SYLVANIA ZEVO 2057 Red LED Bulb https://www.amazon.com/SYLVANIA-ZEVO-205...s=zevo+2057+red

I would like to use one of these but I know on the Zevo I couldn't get the bulb to go far enough into the socket to reach the locking mechanize.

Any suggests and/or ideas?

These are for the rear brake/turn signals.

With all the buzz of upgrading to LED last night I ordered a set of Sylvania Zevo 1156 to replace the backup lights in the 86. Having to back down a 200' driveway and into my shop at night it was getting to be a challenge. Hopefully some extra light with help these old eyes stay on the blacktop.

No worries, thanks for the update.

I have not tried these but I can see that you will have an issue with it fitting in the socket. I had the same issue with multiple types as the neck of the bulb is too wide to fit into the socket. As such I had to trim down the neck of the bulb as well as open up the socket with a grinder

Also, what I have seen in the 4 sets that I tried is that the running lights are adequate but the separate brake lights in the LED bulb are not as bright. Your bulb may overcome this but I am still looking for one that does.

To be clear, the last set I tired is ok but still not as bright as the incandescent brake light filament.

Regards,

Matt

Just an update on my project. I have replaced ALL lights to LED except for the front turn signal lights and the headlights.

The issue I have is different than Bobs even after using the same bulbs he had tried.

It may be due to the fact that I also have the internal indicator lamps swapped out to LED as there were some strange characteristics with these after I installed the front signal lamps.

The schematic I have is total garbage but the issue I think is the polarized lights I have. I have ordered some non-polarized lights for both the markers and the turn signal indicator.

Will report back the results once I install.

Regards,

Matt

Last night was the first time I had the car out at night since changing bulb. WOW, huge difference is lighting from the backup lights now. Although almost 20 bucks for the Zevo 1156 bulbs I feel
it was money well spent.
