Ya it sure is . Been about November when I pulled the carpet and found some nasty rust in floor pan on driver side . Lucky it wasn't past the factory seams . Had to swap out the corner foot rest area above driver body mount under e brake pedal. That was fun lol. Came apart great with the spot weld cutter. The back of the pan is the trickiest part . Have the main hump fitting nice and tight for good weld . Little more trimming and then pan out again lol to make plug weld holes in pan seam like the factory . Any suggestions are welcomed . Once floor done moving into full quarters and new door shells . Got the driver quarter roof seam exposed after scraping and chipping the lead off . Car wasnt rusted out like the floor was at driver seat area. I figure instead of patching the quarters that full new ones would make the car much better in the end. First time doing this so I'm learning and researching as I go . Glad to have good friends to help lol.

nice work!
ill be doing this soon too.
I was wondering if I bought the left and right side separate and left the trans tunnel in tact if it would be easier.
yours looks great and mine is in about the same condition as yours was before.
I was just thinking that it might be easier for myself because Im not much of a body repairman.

The aftermarket quarters have the whole quarter window in them and the seam is just above the window, at least the ones I have are that way.

I think you'll also need the rear window out as the quarter wraps into the window seam. One other thing to address is you'll have to reapply the studs for the window trim moulding, they can be welded with a stud gun(which is what I'm going to shoot for) or I think you can get the ones that have a screw that holds them.

When the weather gets nice enough I'll be doing the doors and qtr myself.

Thanks for the kind words guys. Markg this is my first time doing the floor . I honestly think its easier doing entire floor . Plus less welding . Ls1 monte I have removed rear window last night before reading this . What you suggested I already figured lol. Thought about the studs for the trim as well . I will prob get the shop that is doing the paint to stud weld all of the window studs back on same with the front . Window came out pretty easy with a heat gun and 90 deg pick . All glass is coming out body will be totally stripped down . Just ordered both full quarters , seat mount square mount pads , and floor plugs. Need a better way to remove the lead from quarter seams any ideas thx . Ls1monte can u send me a pic of the quarter mainly the upper flange. That should be the factory seam like in the pic. This is my first rebuild as far as body and love it !

I dont have much more of a pic of the OEM qtr seam but it comes across to the window and is the outer most layer on the top of that window recessed area.

Here is the new qtr that I have not sure if the new ones are the same although I would suppose they are.

Hope that helps some.

if you use a torch the lead will roll out of the joint, just dont overheat the roof panel. I'll get that pic later today.

I just re-read my pic post and I think I wasn't very clear. The roof skin comes down to the quarter window opening and it is the outer most layer of the top window lip. The quarter panel is the next one under that I believe.

Thx . Ya i have the seams figured out and how I'm going to install it. If u notice in your window well area on the top roof section ,the flange is part of the roof as well. Quarter slips under that. If my quarter is like yours I will be modifying the above window area on the new panel so it slides under just like the factory one . Cleaned the back window flange last night . the quarter should have a flange for the rear window channel where the window clip studs are . That sealant for the rear is a pain . Side window came out and the sealant came off by just grabbing it and peeled right off . Have good day smile

I recommend welding the seam shut in the corner of the quarter window frame. The large factory gaps there cause a lot of flexing and cracked filler.

Thanks i was thinking to weld that area . Will look at that once I install the quarter . Mine was cracking like a hair line crack. I WONT be replacing the lead with plastic filler . Read other members stating that it is like a sponge and will retain moisture.Any one use it . What is best to replace the lead with so it look right and doesn't crack in the future thanks

That's wicked smile windows in the back didnt scare me but the windshield is scary lol. Quarters I will admit its scary but any one with mechanical ability and can see how things are together can do it. I'm almost at the brace and seat mounts . Waiting for the quarters and seat mount pads to come. Im hoping in a week or two i should be on the quarters. Do you have a build thread too ?

Ya but I'm not real great at keeping up with it. Mine is in the build blog section. I did cut off what was left of my driver's side quarter today, just triyn to figure out the flange above the qtr window. I think I'll leave the roof qtr seam like the new qtr has it.

Lol ya it can be hard to keep up with posting updates when there's work to do haha. Any pics of the quarter chopped off? The roof flange is definetly the tricky part. I must have inspired you to start choppin:) . When you say your going to leave the flange the way it is on the new quarter I know its different slightly.what is your plan for cutting in that area

This is the only pic I have now

Under the original qtr there is a support on the seam. With the reproduction qtr the seam will be a bit higher, I'll try to get a better pic of what, I think, I'm going to do.

I do like the thought of no seams in the qtr window flange.

I think I'll cut just below the tape and remove the outer layer first, which is the roof skin. After that what's left of top flange of the qtr window is part of the original qtr so I'll try to save that to butt the new one against.

I think with the roof skin off I might b able to fit the qtr up there a check fit or lack thereof.

Nice. Love the trunk pan I need one as well. Just some minor rust in mine . Thanks for the quarter pic. Your idea sounds like it will work . I suggest fitting up the quarter roughly to what u have now and making your top cut line accurate as possible. I can't wait till I have my first quarter off. Once I get my floor finished up I will be making some braces on the inside before I remove the quarters .

Started fitting the seat crossmember in place . Have it clamped and marking spot weld locations. So far it fits like a glove just literally popped in place when clamped

It's nice to know all that metal is protected by the e coat.

Looks real good you'll be doing burnouts before you know it!

Haha smile ya I clean the spots when its clamped down with wire wheel on drill and it cleans just the hole area were the spot weld will be it works great and that way the coating is right there . The floor will get coated eventually . Even in the under side rust won't even have a chance to form . I still have to swap the belt mounts from the old floor and spot weld them in the car . Did you do your floor already ?

Here is a view I notice not many show when they do their floor . I still have to repair the hole for the clutch Lincage . Previous owner hacked it up so I need to replace that section from a donor so I can mount my clutch master cylinder later on

I don't think I've got the a pillar sections you need. Is it just the part right on the cowl you need?

Quarter is off now . Working on the trunk area now . Almost have the spare tire well removed then removing trunk floor as well. Will be getting the complete trunk floor with braces and spare tire well . Then wheelhouses then doors . Slowly but surely . Just gotta keep it one day at a time wink . As you can see the trunk isn't to bad but the driver side body mount brace and part of floor where it meets the wheelhouse has some rot . Soon will be nice and new metal

Boy that looks familiar think

Sorry I have just the passenger side lower a pillar I went through my scrap but didn't find the drivers side. Check with Mick he's cutting up a car right now I'm getting a patch panel from him.

The drivers trunk floor fit pretty well in mine just trimmed a minor spot by the spare well. I got mine without the body mount and wasn't expecting the fuel tank braces but to my surprise they were there. The only spot it don't fit well is around the filler neck but it should be easily fixed.

Looks good keep at it your motivating others whiteside

I actually need both side a pillar bottoms . Not sure who mick is . I got the spare tire well out tonight. Next I will remove the trunk floor. I pulled one body mount bolt right behind the driver wheelhouse . The bolt basically just broke it only had maybe an1/8" holding it together so that one was easy lol. That is the spot that is bad

you should minitub and frame notch it while its apart. get more tire clearance. if you dont already have plans for that.

I have thought about mini tubs and the frame notch just kind of uneasy of the thought of xxxx the frame . I will be doing my rear rails because driver side has a hole by the body mount behind wheel well. I do have plans to build the 76 454 I have here and I also have a chevelle 12 bolt 4 series posi to go in it . Had a 4 speed and had a t5 . Thinking about a T56 . Any pics of some mini tubs ?

I have a question. I have a donor car that I am going to remove pieces from for my floor pan replacement. I am trying to figure out how the rockers, floor pan and floor pan support/inner rocker go together so I know how I am going to remove it from the donor and place it into my car. The edges past the floor pans are gone too and I am trying to figure out what I need to do. I marked up a photo of what I think the 3 pieces look like....can someone confirm I have this correct? I am hoping I can cut the floor out right where "B" meets "D" and weld it in. Its the rust around area "A" that has me worried..it looks like about 3 layers of metal and trying to figure out whats -what and how to fix it leaves me scratching my head a bit.

Spider first I think this would best be in a new post of your own, but to answer your question yes your drawing is correct as far as how the rockers are put together. Are you sure your rockers are completely rust free?

Progress is looking good how'd that rocker assembly come together?

I was looking for a picture of where my trunk pan meets with the rear panel just can't find one at the moment. I can say the fitment issue was the radiused area on the trunk pan for the fuel filler it didn't match the tailpanel. The deepest part of the filler recess on the trunk pan was about an 1/8 inch forward (to the front) leaving a gap between it and the tailpanel.

Thx . Did you end up getting new door shells or using original doors. Before I can weld the rockers on passenger side and quarter I need to hang a door. My originals need skins and door bottoms for sure so I'm trying to weigh my options. Know anyone with the new door shells ?

I got lucky and found a set of rust free OEM doors a guy had about three hrs from me, I ended up with them although they have some dents in the outer skin the seams r good.

I'd check with mikes on the skins seems to have the best pricing usually, unless you maticulously search C/L for good originals.

If your quarters are like mine areas that needed addressed were down where the qtr overlaps the rocker, the gap door to qtr, and on the rear where it laps the tailend panel. The last one, in that list, needed just a slice to allow the top to flex down into place.

My problem is I get to working and don't really think about documenting all the processes. Hopefully yours will go into place easier as I bit off too much and got cut happy so there wasn't much for reference.

Cool . Ya there is usually a little tweaking to get stuff to fit. So far i havent had to mod the quarter yet but its not fully fitted yet but is really close. My roof seam is fitting very good though . I almost have the window mounting holes lined up. I need a few more key parts to finish up the body and get to the less tedious stuff

With over 12K views of your post people are looking. Things have been slow on the forum for a while now.
Keep plugging away at it, soon you will see what looks like a car again.

So i picked up a donor frame for the car .was from a 84 ss which was awsome since mine is a 84 as well.paid 500 and its completly redone .no fixed body mount holes or anything like that.frame rails have been boxed and lca and uca have been braced .its coated in por15 insode and out .i figured it would cost me alot more to have the 84s frame at this point so it was a no brainer .trying to post pics

I think you can get away with the wider rear, if you run later model camaro or vette wheels with their higher backspacing numbers

Front suspensi9n all apart.have the upper control arms rebuikt with new bushings and cross shafts .still have to do the lowers .painted black and cross shafts silver.
Replacing the crossshafts isnt to hard of a job if u want to keep your origunal arms and not get the aftermarket replacement.the cross shafts i used are off set to allow more positive camber i guess. .its all ac delco parts from rock auto https://image.ibb.co/cXrULJ/20180612_213648.jpg

2 weeks ago I painted my lowers up really nice. They looked brand new. Then i scraped them all up on the driveway while pressing the ball joints. Then i beat them up with the BFH to get them in place because the new bushings were fat. Then I scraped all the paint on the bottoms with my jack while putting in the springs. I was disappointed with this outcome =p

Good luck!

Thats cool I took a long time fitting so I didn't have to un-do anything. Your pic looks real good is that a new rocker?

I'm still plugging away, started stripping the fenders and doors to get epoxy on them, kinda been looking for a rotisserie.

So making good progress lately.the entire driver side has been assembled to check and make things fit right .sheet metal screws in key areas so things go back together the exact same way after welding . So far wheelhouse is welded in ,inner and outter rockers ,part of the trunk up to spare tire well .quarter is in the process of going back on .first i need to coat the inside of the quarter with some undercoating and spray the inner quarter structure and wheelhouse trunk drop off areas. Hopefully the pics work and u can see the driver side progress

You have any pics of the car done? Those aftermarket parts seem to line up very well.

Enjoy life, family first!

Here is a shot of the driver door open .heres a tip if u get wheel houses get the complete assemblies.they fit to the rocker properly .passenger side i got seperate pieces and the arent even close at the bottom front where it meets rocker flange.there is a little extensi9n off the outter rocker that is a welded spot when together and they dont even come close to meeting up amd the shape is way off .the complete one on driver side fit like a glove once positi9ned and looks like factory in the wheel area
https://ibb.co/Jk7nx84
Below is the pic of the 2 pc wheelhouse installed the ends are not even close to what they should be and u can see the outter rocker tab!

Here is the driver side in comparison .ignore the dust lol.so sometimes aftermarket fits good and sometimes it doesmt .u have to go all in sometimes to have a good fit.i think i might ditch the passenger halve wheel houses and get a complete one . The difference is huge

More progress pics.new hinges hanging ,rocker, wheelhose and quarter panel fitting .the wonky wheelhouse i am going to replace with a complete one. The roof seam is always a nervous part just take your time and dont cut to much off at a time.quarter will go up a little more and it will be perfect seam.

I think it’s so awesome that your basically replacing all metal on a gbody to make it solid again. We rarely rarely see that or at least for me it’s rare. Keep up the good work.

Been working on the passenger side lately.working on the spot where the quarter overlaps the rocker .working on getting the flange to suck in tight to the outter rocker on the bottom . If this isnt tight amd fitting just right good luck having a nice fit in the end with the door on .at least driver side is all done ex3pt final welding of the quarter .i can reference it as i go .thats is key only do one side at a time if u do this .is less work and fitting in the end
