So you have a fan on both the heat exchanger and the trans cooler up inside the airbox and then another set of fans on the back side of the radiator. Does each fan have it's own controller kicking it on only when needed?

When I saw your fans inside the box on the exchanger and cooler I was wondering if you'd even put fans on the radiator.

Install looks great, keep up the good work. How long til fire up?

Correct, the Fans on the radiator are controlled by the PCM. They each have their own control relay, I have full individual control of these through EFI Live software and can stagger the kick on and turn off temp to what I select.

The Trans, as posted earlier in this thread, has a thermostatic switch to trigger another individual relay.
The thermo switch will trip the relay at 180 deg and turn off at 165. The Heat Exchanger also has its own fan control that I will base off of the AIT readings from the PCM.

As far as the fire up date, I am working as fast as possible but have a full time Job, Wife and Kids so not certain but trying to do as soon as possible as time permits.

I had to search for new radiator hoses which took a great deal of time sifting through auto parts inventory. All the store mangers were very cool, letting me go back and have a look at what I needed. Basically, I just grabbed what I thought would work based on simple measurements. As you can see from the previous post where I posted an image of the Intake hose, I was successful with the upper Radiator hose.

From this image below, I also found a suitable one for the lower.

As for big items remaining.. I need to get all the wiring and PCM placement sorted out, I still have the rear gear to change out. I ordered the 350 gear from Currie that will replace the 389 and will probably have that done next week as well as a tire change. Small items are the Air duct coupler I ordered for the Throttle Body to air duct connection, as well as a mid support bracket, A/C heater box assembly, vacuum lines, starter connection and general assembly. Regards, Matt

Did you use an aluminium radiator for a g-body, or something else? If it's for a g-body, can you share the part numbers for the hoses you used? They look like good fits.

Very nice build. Subscribed for more info.

Btw, I know you got yours in a kit with your supercharger Airaid also sells the inlet tube with ls7 maf provisions for 60 bucks. Edelbrock is 150 and they appear to be the same thing in case someone else is looking to do this cai

You are partially correct, but with just one correction, The Edelbbrock Universal GM Housing, 15401, for around 160 bucks, comes with the sensor.. Still more expensive than if you pieced them together with the Airaid housing and bought the sensor so your overall point of being able to save more money is still valid.

Regards,

Matt

The other item I failed to mention that you were also correct about is that the housing came with my supercharger kit. It also did not come with the sensor in the supercharger kit so I did purchase that sensor on my own.

For the radiator, if you want to go with electric fans, you need to get the Buick Rad cover. The Fans and aluminum fan shroud I bought from the same company but I cant seem to find the part number for the dual fans. If I had it to do over I would not get the fans as they did not last long and draw too much current as compared to flex-a-lite fans that also move more air.

Regards,

Matt

Ok, what about the hoses? What are they originally for, and do you still have the part numbers for them?

Lower is a Dayco 71982, upper is Dayco 71679.

I could not tell you the application. I simply selected what I thought would work.

The upper is different than what I had for the LS2 out of the GTO I placed in this car before, as the inlet to the water pump is closer to the radiator on this current set-up.

I did not like the last lower hose I had and found this one that fit better.

Matt

My pleasure!

So just a quick update folks.. I had a minor setback with the wire harness.

It turns out that they gave me the wrong MAP plug in addition I need the Length for the MAF and O2 Sensors extended. To do so, I had to take the entire harness out and send it back to have the items changed.

Again, not a big deal but just more waiting..

I still have more items to shore up as I am putting in the 350 gear this weekend, Installing the vacuum distribution block for the Hobbs boost switch, boost controlled fuel regulator and boost gauge.

Will post more once I have updates.

Regards,

Matt

You can't just order o2 harness extensions? I did that with my swap. I ordered them from PSI Conversions....you can also try Casper Electronics.

Could have, but since they also gave me the wrong MAP plug and I paid for what I had asked for, Longer O2, and MAF leads, no need to pay for extensions.

Got the 350 Gear set installed today.

Also received my RX PCV set-up in the mail today. Will be installing tomorrow.

Ran into a bit of a snag with the fuel line leak test. I will post the details tomorrow.

Matt

Ok so I had to fix some issues regarding fuel leaks..

Here is a short video On what I used for -AN fitting leak on the tank feed.

So one of the things I had to set-up was a good PCV system as these cars will choke the daylight out of the inter coolers as well as the motor.

So I went with the Tracy Lewis Monster RX catch Can

Here is where I decided to mount as you want it in a cool location to condense the vapors..

I taped some holes on the Air Raid Air duct for the Dirty and clean sides.

Below is a crude image I drew up to show how its routed. The silver pieces represent one-way valves with the arrow to indicate the flow. So two ports to draw from the dirty side (driver) valve cover. Then a port by the filter to draw clean air on on the passenger side valve cover, The nub on the driver side valve cover is a cap.

Even though I made more room for the LS9 Large baffled valve covers, One issue I still had to overcome was the coil location as it still caused the wire to rub up against the Heater/Air box.

So what I did was to fab some simple brackets out of aluminum plate to raise the coil upward.

Here is an underside shot of it mounted to the cover.

Last, here is a side by side comparison of a stock LS2 valve cover and coil location next to my modified LS9 Valve cover. I only had to raise the back two as they were the only ones causing a problem.

Last, here is an image, albeit not that great, but you can see how the front coils push or bow the wire outward whereas the modified coils draw the wire closer to the engine. Worked perfect BTW..

And Last.. I finally got a chance to start it up and run it with the break in oil..

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPKfud7Cl2o&feature=youtu.be

After dumping the first round of break-in oil and adding a second round, I need to button up some odds and ends with the Air, the driveshaft, Some small trans fluid leaks.

The fans I had bought originally for the LS2 swap are garbage.. Ordered some more Flex-a-lites. Then its on to getting the exhaust done right..

Then its on to the dyno!

Cheers!

That thing will be a monster on the road! Nice work. Congrats on the fire up, good luck tidying up the little things and breaking it in properly on the road.

Thanks!

I got the Trans leaks taken care of and am now just waiting on the fans I ordered. They should be in this week.

I got all the relays mounted and I am routing all the wiring with some general tidying up.

I will post some pictures when I have time but will be taking the car up to get my 3" Stainless mandrel bent exhaust done hopefully this week.

The exhaust on there now is a hot mess. Other than the custom stainless headers, the rest is garbage that originally came with the car when it had the 350 in it.

I have dealt with it, up until now, knowing I would have it done right once I had the drivetrain I desired.

I love the mild manners of EFI with this engine idling smoothly at 550 RPM and cant wait to get this thing to its peak performance.

Happy Easter to all!

Cheers!

Matt
