i'm running Monte SS aluminum wheels on my 86 Camaro, and looking to upgrade the brakes. looking at the factory 12" setups to keep it cheap and easy to get parts for down the road.

i know from past experience with my 71 Nova that the light duty C4 Vette brakes will fit inside older steel 15X7 Z/28 wheels with lots of room to spare, but how about the aluminum Monte wheels?
do LS1 Camaro brakes fit?
how about a hybrid that uses 70's Corvette rotors and either LS1 F body or HD C4 Vette calipers?

86 MC SS- rough, but fixable. looks like something Dale Sr might have driven back to the transport after a race at Bristol.

Have you thought about just doing the factory 1LE front brake upgrade, here's a Spohn kit,
http://www.spohn.net/shop/1982-1992-GM-F-Body/Brakes-Accessories/1LE-Front-Brakes-Components/

Or you could part it out yourself with new, less expensive rotors, rebuilt calipers, along with new caliper brackets/hoses/ pads for less than $500.

thought about it, but i'm looking for a slip on rotor instead of the factory integrated hub, and would prefer a thicker rotor such as the LS1 or C3 Vette rotors.
besides, i don't think the 1LE will fit under the MCSS aluminum wheel..
i've got 16" GTA's that i know will clear the light duty 12" C4 brakes and maybe the LS1 brakes, but the C4 brakes use the thinner rotor and i don't know if either setup clears the SS wheels. figured someone on here would have tried some of these combos and could relay their experience..

The LS1 brakes won't fit with a 15" rim, but they will clear the 16" GTA's with a spacer added due to the extra mounting pad depth needed so the caliper doesn't hit.

I believe there is a member with ls1 rear brakes under stock aluminum wheels. I know the rears fit on mine when I had to move my car.

Sorry, I should of been clearer, The fronts won't fit. I've never tried the rears but Jameson is correct, AxisG has LS1 rears with the stock SS wheel.
