Tony - my plan exactly! Perfect for the t56 swap, even down to the backlit bowtie! You get the Revolutions? Were you able to install (six?) in the OE cluster?

Not really...just used a fiberglass bezel for all the gauges. I have the gps antenna sitting on top of the dash right behind the gauge pod... I'll have to snap some good pics one of these days.

Speedhuts are awesome.. they were started by the grandson of the guy who does Autometers... time to support the next generation! I love how you can customize them too.

Tony, the guages really look very attractive; not just the standard 6, but the transmission temperature and extra switches are well laid out. I am going to fit the six standard size guages into the current space, either with the bezels in front or mounted behind the current shadowbox with no bezels if I need to. Next years project. Thougts?
Thanks again for sharing this fine project. Impressive install!

I went round and round with ways to mount these... so far this worked best for me.. I tried to used factory bezels, but it didn't work out with 7. Let us know what you come up with..good luck.

Wow tony that looks amazing. I think after all these years this is the first time I seen the inside of that beautiful car of yours. It is me and the wifes favorite 78-80 MC. One question do you ever loose GPS signal for the speedo? worship

Thanks, I appreciate the comments.

Yes, you are said to loose the signal in tunnels and bridges. I do get a signal in my garage though....

I think it's pretty rare to loose a signal... I like the accuracy and features that it comes with vs a standard one.

Tony - its been six years since you last added to this thread. I have the six Speedhut gauges (including 160 mph GPS speedo) plus A/F and transmission temp in a box awaiting return of the dash from Just Dashes. Can you post a closeup of your dash and the how you addressed the second gauge dimmer and/or layout of other switches. Did your pull out the speedometer cable and how/where did you cap off the connection to the tranny? Tried to PM you but you are at max.
Thanks for sharing.

Any recommendations from the site re the speedo cable? Just pull it out? Some way to cap off at the tranny?
Thanks,
Gordon

When my speedometer started squealing, I just unhooked the cable at the transmission and used zip ties to keep it tucked underneath the car and away from the headers.

This is the first I've seen of Tony's gauge layout - I've been looking at custom gauge set ups for weeks. It's definitely one of, if not the best looking custom layouts I've seem so far. I've also decided on Speedhut gauges myself and was planning on either stuffing as much as I could behind the stock trim bezel or getting another bezel to cut up - I found a vinyl wrap that I think will match the 85's brushed black trim (I'm not going to cut up the stock one). I think I'm leaning towards the custom array so I can get the nitrous pressure gauge in the dash area - if I do, I'll probably go with the silver gauge trim rings.

with my LS swap and Tremec TKO swap I too need to upgrade my gauge package , with that said I like the top pic lay out. I have looked at ALOT of gauge lay outs. Is the top one all Speed hut and are they electric or any mechanical?

Kevin, where did you find these layouts, or did you photoshop them into place? Great either way. Gauges in the top are either 4 or 4-1/2, based on the tach. The 3-3/8 is max for the current shadow box, unless the face is brought out significantly. Had considered putting two in place of the warning lights built into the speedo as you show on top. Good to see this so thanks! I will be getting a new dash face plate from MikesMontes shortly to start the layout. I have the directionals and high beam indicators built in too. Gotta love a 270 degree sweep with meaningful numbers....

I took a picture of my stock gauge bezel trim and used snip-it to cut and paste the gauges into an excel spread sheet where I brought them all to scale. Then used snip-it and paint to combine the two - I wish I had photoshop - lol.

All gauges are Speedhut and I'm going all electric since these have the full sweeps - that's why I've typically used mechanical gauges in the past.

The bottom picture in my first reply is their 4" tach and speedometer combo and 2-1/16" gauges that have a 4.15" and 2.27" outside measurement.

The gauge window or pane in the stock trim bezel measured from the top is right at 4" tall and 10.75" wide - however on the back, there's an angle at the bottom that graduates to right at 4.625" and the stock gauge cluster "shadow box measures right at that as well. So, it appears that stacking the two 2-1/16"" gauges (2.27" total) on top of each other,,, while tight (measuring 4.54") should work. I picked the "Stealth Black" gauge bezel because they appear to be a lower profile than the other bezels, in case the back side of the stock trim panel might need to be notched or trimmed slightly. So, while I've never seen that many gauges or a 4" tach or speedometer in that space, before, I do believe one could cram them in there.

For reference, the 5", 3-3/8", and 2-1/16" Autometer gauge outside measurements are 4.59", 3.75" and 2.20"

The top one in the earlier post and at the bottom of this one is their 4.5" and 2-1/16" gauges, which according to their site has an outside measurement of 4.50" and 2.27" respectfully.. The space you have to work with on a custom top gauge plate is 11.25" wide and 7.75" on each side of the steering column notch,, which is off centered. There's 3.75" to the left and 3.25" on the right with 5.125" from the top of the column notch.

Pretty sure I'm going to end up getting another trim bezel and doing the top plate gauge mounting with the silver trim like below.

Original owner of 1985 SS black hardtop w/gray interior. Frame-on restoration - 406 sleeper w/ heavily ported FIRST TPI. However the 1.875" headers, 3.5" duals, TH400, Ford 9", notched frame, and 10-point cage w/swing-out bars might tip you off it's not a lil' ole 305 TPI. Other mods: 2" drop, 18" wheels, f/r disk brakes, and custom stereo system.

http://www.replacementenginesparts.com/photos/131886869020_1.jpg Just so I am sure , this is what you are referring to as the bezel? I would modify mine ( the dash part it bolts to is trashed on mine because I bolted a 5'' tach on the side. luckily I have a good replacement) as my car is so far away from stock lol. Oh and thanks badss for putting up the dimensions .

mattsclassicbowties. has a carbon fiber ( real?) dash with autometer ultra lites on ebay for $1359.95 / make offer deal. I REALLY like that set up also. 5'' tach and speedo with 2 5/8'' gauges. looks like would have to relocate the head light switch which would work for me as I am making a custom console and would put the switch there.

Check the site out as they have other options available - looks like that combo is less on the site.
http://www.mattsclassicbowties.com/contents/en-us/d2667.html

I'm going to assume the one on eBay is using the Autometer dash trim panel - it's plastic and pretty expensive at around $315, but if you don't want/need the air conditioner vent and don't want to put in the time to modify a stock one, then it looks to be pretty good set up.

No problem - hope it helps you and anyone else looking for guages.

Yes, what you linked is what I'm calling the dash/trim bezel. Also, the one you linked is an 86 up. Mine is an 85 and while the measurements should be the same for the 85 and earlier, I can't say with certainty if they would be the same for the 86 up. Maybe some can measure one and add to this thread.
